Oak Grove was our first official family RV trip and we loved it. It was convenient and well-maintained. Not far from the pool and the beach.
To get to Oak Grove use the West Gate via Blue Angel PKWY. If you come in the main gate, and don’t thoroughly know your way through the base, you can easily end up at the old Seabees gate area where there are blockade weaves that are not RV friendly. We checked in at the little campground(CG) office at the entrance then backed in to site 25 with FHUs. We couldn’t find the cable connection so checked with the office. The nice lady working the office came over and looked all around the utilities post where the newly run cable is supposed to reside. She finally found it out front by the cement pad. We ran the cable under the trailer and the very wide variety of channels worked fine. This is an older CG with lots of trees so satellite would be iffy. This CG has it own entrance to the beach that did not have a lot of people traffic during our 5 nights stay. There are a combination of back-in and pull through sites with 50& 30 AMP service. The sites tend to be fairly close to each other. Several reviews state spacious sites, but compared to campgrounds we’ve stayed in, only a handful of sites such as deluxe sites 46-51 come close to spacious. The water pressure was very good plus we got 4 bars on Verizon. A bonus is that the CG is close to the Naval Aviation Museum and flight line where the Blue Angels launch and practice. We went out to the beach where we could see the Blue Angels practice on Tuesdays& Wednesdays when they are in town. After the regular duty day and on weekends the park was quiet. There are multiple trails and areas to walk your dog or ride your bike.
Have a spot 50 yards from beach. More expensive then the interior slots. Next time I know to get less expensive slot as the are all 👍
I stayed at the base lodging. Found out there are no more tent sites here and was directed to Blue Angel site, which is off base. Chose the lodging instead.
That being said, the beach was very clean. A solid 3 mile round trip walking. Saw some dolphins in the early morning and some rays. Not many people and plenty of space. The beach area is closed after sunset; per the military police. The RV site itself appeared very busy and crowded but very clean and well managed. Would have wished to being able to camp, but it was not meant to be.
Perfect for those days where you want to camp and hang out on some beautiful beaches! Warm turquoise waters and tons of history just steps away! Check out the National Aviation Museum or the old forts from long ago! Or just hang out and watch the Blue Angels practice! Not a bad place to be!
RV sites are concrete pads with full hook up (power, water, sewer, WiFi, and cable). Most sites are a little closer together than we are used to. No fire rings at the RV sites. Tent sites do have fire rings, but no power or water. Bathhouse is large and very clean. Laundry facilities available. There is a community center building with TV, tables, and fire ring that hosted a dirty Santa and nightly BYOB happy hours while we were there, as well as a NYE Party planned. Staff and camp hosts are very friendly and helpful. Walking distance to the Pensacola Lighthouse and National Naval Aviation Museum. Dog friendly beach right at the campground. They do not allow swimming at this beach, but still fun for letting the dog run, fishing, and hanging out. Swimming beach and pool are located at other areas of the base. Reservations are site type, not site specific, but after talking with the staff they said they’d try to accommodate site requests the best they could when making reservation.
clean, fun, beautiful beaches and plenty around to keep you entertained. NAS museum, lighthouse, Pensacola beach and so much more.
My husband and I love this campground! It's in a good location to resturants and beaches and occasional Blue Angel's flying which is a real treat! The beach at the campground is pet friendly which is rare for the area.We have been camping here for years! It is full hookup.
This campground is wooded, but has water access. Although swimming is not allowed on that beach, the water is not off limits, so it's a nice place to hang out. The bath and laundry facilities are always clean and well cared for. I love to run and the path through the campground leads to the sea wall. The campground is walking distance to the lighthouse and a short drive to the museum on base. Beaches and all things related are just a short drive away! We'll stay again if we can get a reservation.
