Our First FAMCAMP Stay
To get to Oak Grove use the West Gate via Blue Angel PKWY. If you come in the main gate, and don’t thoroughly know your way through the base, you can easily end up at the old Seabees gate area where there are blockade weaves that are not RV friendly. We checked in at the little campground(CG) office at the entrance then backed in to site 25 with FHUs. We couldn’t find the cable connection so checked with the office. The nice lady working the office came over and looked all around the utilities post where the newly run cable is supposed to reside. She finally found it out front by the cement pad. We ran the cable under the trailer and the very wide variety of channels worked fine. This is an older CG with lots of trees so satellite would be iffy. This CG has it own entrance to the beach that did not have a lot of people traffic during our 5 nights stay. There are a combination of back-in and pull through sites with 50& 30 AMP service. The sites tend to be fairly close to each other. Several reviews state spacious sites, but compared to campgrounds we’ve stayed in, only a handful of sites such as deluxe sites 46-51 come close to spacious. The water pressure was very good plus we got 4 bars on Verizon. A bonus is that the CG is close to the Naval Aviation Museum and flight line where the Blue Angels launch and practice. We went out to the beach where we could see the Blue Angels practice on Tuesdays& Wednesdays when they are in town. After the regular duty day and on weekends the park was quiet. There are multiple trails and areas to walk your dog or ride your bike.
