High Bluff Campground — Joe Budd WMA and Lake Talquin State Forest

      Nice site

No complaints about this site; plenty of campsites to pick from even with about 6 other campers; space to spread out from others. Good for primitive tent camping. Had a fire pit with grill and picnic table. Right on the lake with pier access and boat ramp- pretty cool spot. Only lost a star because of previous campers leaving some trash behind.

High Bluff Campground — Joe Budd WMA and Lake Talquin State Forest

      Nice, very simple

This was a quick overnight stay for myself. I arrived a little bit after sunset and left fairly early in the morning.

Stayed at site number 18, which was Lakeside, but all campsites have decent view of lake through the trees. There is a dock and she can walk down to the water itself.

This is a very isolated place, and you have to drive down a dirt road, but very packed, which even sedans can handle no problem, unless it’s been raining that it might get a little slippery

When I stayed, it was 34° so didn’t do a whole lot but get set up in the rooftop tent and sleep. No real issues with Internet, for Verizon, but signal wasn’t super strong.

There is a toilet bathroom that is composting style, without sinks or showers.

But I booked I thought it said electrical, but after I booked, it said no electrical and when I arrived on site, there was a electrical pedestal, looked brand new, but not working. Unknown if they will soon have electricity or not ever used.

For its isolation and quietness and availability, I would definitely return. I don’t have a lot in this area to attend to, but this is a nice spot.

Star count is only down, ranked due to lack of electricity and water, as well as the slightly difficult drive in. That’s a plus for some people, but that’s how I do my star rankings.

      Newport Park Campground

      Small but functional

Very small county campground. Went selected for location to bike trails and beaches. Bathhouses were mostly clean but well worn. No personal on site most of the time. Handful of long term people who are friendly.

      Upgrading this nice old park

Reagan family working hard to restore this park...waterslide, bounce houses, arcade, pools, disc golf, etc ..they have something for everyone. We love the sites on one of the stocked fishing ponds. On site store fully equiped and great coffee and ice cream. This was first campground we went tent camping in!

Quiet No Frills Camping with Lake Views

Visited new years eve weekend and the campground was relatively quiet. The vault toilet was well stocked with toilet paper and kept clean, but there was some trash around the campground. The dock on the lake is nice and there were several people fishing. Good location for hunting the surrounding WMAs. The 3 star review is primarily due to the camping spots marked in cross ties are narrow and some spots are difficult to get a larger camper in. I would visit again.

      Newport Park Campground

      Nice spot

Campground was nice and quiet. A little traffic noise but not too bad. It had a boat dock and pier to observe the St. Marks River. The St. Marks lighthouse is so close and a must see during all times of the day. We visited at least twice, once to walk along the beach and the second time to see the sunset. There are so many beautiful sights in the area. We visited Alligator Point and Bald Point State Park. We saw a bald eagle and so many other species of birds. I will return. The host was gracious and very informative. They did have some trouble with the restrooms, they were closed for a short time when we arrived and closed again before we left. However, we did use the showers and the bathhouse was clean when it was operational. I would recommend this camp if you are exploring the area and there is a lot to explore.

      Holiday Campground on Ochlockonee Bay

      Nice, small waterfront CG

Nice little CG on the bay with a good number of direct bayfront sites. Some with pine trees for shade. Clean bathrooms. Swimming pool. Small market/ general store within walking distance.

      Newport Park Campground

Overnighted B4 Paddling the St. Marks

Called ahead and booked a tent site at this county campground.

Brian and Betty were the hosts (BnB!). Brian was very nice on the phone and didn't even come around to collect $!

In fairness, I was there for a short time and dropped the appropriate fare by the door of their RV on my way out.

Nice bathroom facilities gave me the chance to clean up.

There's a boat ramp within walking distance if you've got one!

      Newport Park Campground

      Short visit, didn’t stay overnight

Was actually at the spot geocaching, but really like the look of this little campground. And I mean little.

There’s a combination of electric hook ups and non-electric hook ups. It’s all very well kept and clean and organized.

Favoring this one for potential return to actually camp at. Gave this one 4 to 5 stars which is above average for me. But I’ve earned a fifth star if it wasn’t so close to the road with road noise and had been staffed full-time, and had a few more amenities.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: High Bluff Campground provides excellent fishing access with a dedicated pier where wildlife viewing is part of the experience. "Caught a beautiful sunset over the lake and saw a massive gator hanging out by the fishing pier. The gator was back in the morning as I was enjoying my cup of coffee out on the pier!" reports Tucker B.

Wildlife viewing: At St. Marks Wildlife Refuge, located directly across from Newport Park, visitors can explore hiking trails and observe native Florida wildlife. Water recreation: Ragan Family Campground (formerly Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park) offers multiple water attractions beyond basic swimming. "Water park, lazy river, a park, fishing, and family activities. 10/10. Will be back," shares Brandi M., highlighting the diverse recreational options available at this family-oriented facility.

    What campers like

Unique animal interactions: Goat House Farm provides an unusual camping experience where animals are part of your stay. "The owner of the farm was so welcoming and accommodating. Peaceful waterfront settings: Holiday Campground on Ochlockonee Bay offers direct bayfront sites with natural shade. "Nice little CG on the bay with a good number of direct bayfront sites. Brian was very nice on the phone and didn't even come around to collect $!" shares Tucker B. about Newport Park Campground, highlighting the reasonable rates and relaxed atmosphere.

    What you should know

Limited amenities at primitive sites: Some campgrounds in the area offer minimal facilities. "For a 26" tt the spot was just enough, a little rough to back into. Entirely worth it. If you're looking for a peaceful, quiet place this is it. Be sure to fill your water before arrival as there is no spigot. Full primitive. The vault toilet is pretty gnarly," advises Joey S. about High Bluff Campground.

Cell service variability: Connectivity can be unreliable in the more remote camping areas near Wacissa. "There is close zero cell reception and they have wifi but we really weren't able to connect and use it. Very spotty," reports Ashlee R. about her stay at Ragan Family Campground.

Wildlife presence: Expect to encounter native Florida wildlife, particularly in waterfront locations. "Fishing dock is nice and you can see lots of gators. I don't recommend swimming in the water, its pretty murky," warns Alycia P. from her High Bluff Campground experience, adding "I don't do spiders and they are all over the place here.. And HUUUUGEEE at that."

    Tips for camping with families

Choose campgrounds with organized activities: Newport Park Campground serves as a good jumping-off point for family exploration. "The location is a good jumping off point for seeing nearby attractions. The host is very nice and the place has decent washroom/shower facilities," shares R C., noting the convenient location for accessing multiple family-friendly sites.

Consider yurt camping: Yurt accommodations near Wacissa, Florida offer families a comfortable middle ground between tent camping and cabin rentals. Newport Park provides these structures with more protection from elements and insects while maintaining the camping experience.

Balance natural and developed amenities: For families wanting both outdoor activities and convenience, some locations offer both. "This campground has plenty of room for kids. Between fishing, the pool, the water park, mining for gems and the 3 playgrounds around the park our son didn't run out of activities," mentions a camper about Ragan Family Campground.

    Tips from RVers

Access considerations: Some campgrounds have limitations for larger rigs. "The 3 star review is primarily due to the camping spots marked in cross ties are narrow and some spots are difficult to get a larger camper in," notes Stacie R. about High Bluff Campground, suggesting advanced planning for RV site selection.

Road conditions: Access roads to more remote campgrounds may require careful driving. "The last 3 miles are dirt road, but in good condition as long as you can stay in the middle without traffic," explains Sebastian L. about the approach to High Bluff Campground, adding valuable context for RVers concerned about road quality.

Hookup availability: Check for full hookup options when planning yurt camping near Wacissa, Florida. "Sites run around $17 and there is centrally located bathroom and shower facilities," reports Juke W. about Newport Park, while noting its affordability compared to other full-service campgrounds in the region.
