Spring Creek Campground is located near Gunnison in the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forest. The area features forested terrain with elevations that can influence temperatures, ranging from lows in the 30s Fahrenheit in spring and fall to highs in the 80s during summer. Nearby attractions include the Gunnison River and Blue Mesa Reservoir, offering opportunities for fishing and boating.

 This location is available on a first-come, first-served basis only. Visitors are required to physically arrive at the campground to purchase and claim a site. Once on-site, you may be able to pay for your campsite(s) by scanning a QR code using the Recreation.gov mobile app, and the Scan and Pay feature. If this option is available, you will need to first download the free Recreation.gov mobile app https://www.recreation.gov/mobile-app prior to your arrival as some remote areas have limited or no cellular service.

The Best Camping Near Almont, Colorado

This has been one of my favorite camping spots ever. Once you pass the Spring Creek Campground you will come up on a BLM sign and grom there until you can't drive anymore you can camp. All the way up and past the lake. I camped near the front because I got there late and had to find a spot quick before dark.

You are basically camping in the bottom of a canyon next to a fast flowing creek that is so peaceful. The canyon seems to only be about 150ft wide and shoots straight up on both sides. No cell service of any kind but that was honestly kinda nice to get away.  

STARS STARS STARS at night... my goodness. Highly recommended. Only 30 minutes to Crested Butte too!

I camped at the spot below but I was right next to the road. You can continue up the road until you find the perfect spot. Even out in the open or in the valley at the top.

Perfect Dispersed Camping

This is a review for the actual campground. As another review mentioned, there are dispersed sites up the road and many are nice but I stayed at the campground. There is a stream on one side of the campground and most of the sites are on that side of the loop. The sound is wonderful to sleep to. On the other side of the loop is where I stayed because the view was incredible. The camp host was great, everything was clean and well cared for and there was plenty of space between the sites so it didn't feel cramped. This is a first come first served campground.
