Antero Reservoir Campground

Description

Overview

Antero Reservoir Campground is a public campground on the south shore of Antero Reservoir near Hartsel, Colorado, operated by Denver Water — the regional public water utility. Situated in South Park at approximately 8,900 feet elevation, the site is best known as a destination for trout anglers and draws campers seeking a lakeside, open-landscape experience. The reservoir is Denver Water's first collection reservoir on the South Platte River, constructed in 1909.

Facilities

The campground has 38 designated campsites with no electrical, water, or sewer hookups (dry camping only). Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are on-site; there is no drinking water available, so campers must bring their own. Firewood is available for purchase from the camp host during the April–October season. A boat ramp at the south shore provides water access.

Recreation

Fishing is the primary draw — the reservoir is known for large brown and rainbow trout. Non-motorized and hand-launched watercraft (canoes, kayaks, float tubes) are permitted on the reservoir. A boat ramp serves the south shore campground.
