Eldorado National Forest hosts Red Fir Group Campground, a US Forest Service site outside Pollock Pines set up specifically for group use. The campground runs a short season, open from June 20 through September 14. Campers planning a group outing in the Sierra Nevada should note that Northshore Campground Loon Lake (Ca) — Eldorado National Forest sits less than half a mile west, making this corridor a reasonable base for larger parties. Book well in advance for summer weekends.
