North Eagle Lake Campground

BLM's Eagle Lake Field Office manages North Eagle Lake Campground, a drive-in facility that operates from May through November along Highway 139. This established campground sits on higher ground away from Eagle Lake itself, offering both pull-through and standard sites that can accommodate everything from tents to Class A RVs.

The campground stands out for its exceptionally maintained facilities. Multiple reviewers emphasize the cleanliness of the vault toilets, which feature hand sanitizer, air fresheners, and even magazines. Lisa calls them the "cleanest vault toilets ever" and notes the camp host's dedication to maintaining high standards. Water spigots are distributed throughout the campground, and recent improvements include three new vault toilets and updated entrance signage.

Sites offer varying degrees of tree coverage, with some providing distant lake views. The location creates easy highway access but generates some road noise during daytime hours, though nights remain quiet. Eagle Lake itself draws anglers targeting the area's famous Eagle Lake trout, which grow to substantial sizes in these alkaline waters.

Campers seeking lakefront access might prefer Mariner's Resort or Eagle Lake Resort, both located closer to the water's edge.

Many campers appreciated the exceptionally clean facilities and friendly hosts at this well-maintained campground. The location sits away from the lake on dusty terrain, but most found it quiet and suitable for overnight stays.

Right along highway

Sites were not completely level but workable. Looked like homeless folks might have lived there at some point. We made camp 1 night before headed on towards Oregon.

Great place

I’ve never seen cleaner pit toilets Lisa said it all almost. The toilet also have a side table with magazines. We had a good site with a distant lake view. Easy in and out. Can’t beat it for a short overnight stay. The hosts are to be commended.

Looking forward to a return visit

We originally went to the dispersed campground down a very bumpy road but that area was a dirt parking lot, extremely exposed and unappealing so we headed back North Eagle Lake for an overnight stay.

  • Cleanest sites and bathrooms you'll ever experience
  • Water spigots conveniently located throughout
  • Friendly camp host (she took immense pride in maintaining the sites and bathrooms)
  • Tree coverage was great (we hit this on an exceptionally warm fall day)
  • Some road noise from Hwy 136 but quiet at night
  • Did I say cleanest vault toilets ever? There was hand sanitizer, air freshener, waste baskets and holiday decorations in each one to make them "homey.

It appears some upgrades have been done since one of the earlier reviews as there were 3 new vault toilets and a new entrance sign. Not sure why that review said there were no trees as we had plenty of them as did many of the other campsites. There were multiple vans, a Class A, tents and a tear drop so this campground can accommodate all rig sizes.

We'd definitely stay here again.

Close to the Highway

Of all the campgrounds at Eagle Lake this is the least appealing. It sits quite far from the lake on a dry, dusty hill. There is one pit toilet bathroom and there is less shade with less trees. It does have the advantage of being very close to highway 139 and would be a good spot to stop for the night.

Like Fishing?

Eagle Lake is known for its “Eagle Lake Trout” and they get big! The lake itself can get choppy in the afternoon but get out and fish in the morning. The campground facilities here are complete and clean. They have a general store that has everything you could ask for, a little of everything and the staff is friendly and very helpful! The location is great if you like to explore things like lava beds, ice caves and wildlife!
