Asphalt sites with water and electric hookups line the shores of Cane Creek Lake, where campers can access fishing docks within a two-minute walk from most spots. The campground operates year-round within Cane Creek State Park, though seasonal insect populations can significantly impact the camping experience. Lacee G. notes "You have to walk through thick brush on a slope to reach the water," while the fishing pier provides easier lake access.
Sites accommodate RVs of all sizes with 30 and 50-amp electrical service, though some campers report breaker issues when running high-draw appliances like air fryers. The centrally located bathhouse receives consistent praise for cleanliness, and a dump station sits near the park exit. Most sites offer lake views, with sites 9 and 21 mentioned specifically by repeat visitors as preferred locations. A handicap-accessible trail now connects the camping area directly to the boat dock.
Kayak rentals provide access to what reviewers describe as an unusual water trail winding through cypress trees. The park maintains hiking and biking trails, though tick populations require attention during warmer months. A bait shop stocks minnows, worms, and crickets for anglers targeting the lake's fish populations. Wildlife sightings include pileated woodpeckers, deer, and various waterfowl.
Seasonal considerations prove significant here. Winter visits avoid the mosquito and love bug swarms that can make summer camping challenging, while Halloween brings crowds drawn to decorated campsites throughout the campground. Steve S. confirms "mosquitoes are terrible" during peak season but notes "no mosquitoes this time of year" in winter months.
Campers seeking lake access with full hookups will find this state park campground works well for RV camping, particularly during cooler months when insect pressure decreases. Those exploring the region can also check camping spots outside Star City for additional options.
