Quiet and Breathtaking

This spot is just so unbelievable.

We should never have questioned the 4.5 hour drive from the South Rim because in all honesty - this was the best campground in or on or around the Grand Canyon.

It is so quiet, its beautiful, and you have space! You don't feel like you are part of a huge cattle herd either! There are a fraction of the number of campsites compared to Mather Campground too, so you have space and the quiet you are looking for when camping!

My favorite part about this place was the proximity to the rim. You have to of course remember to approach at your own risk (and I probably wouldnt recommend going after dark), but we were a 3 minute walk from the North Rim edge. We didn't get as spectacular of a sunset as we did on the South Rim but thats ok.

Each campsite comes with a picnic bench and grill. The bathrooms were pristine compared to Mather. The general store was amazing! They had everything we needed (that we forgot!)

snow in may

Will all i can say is thank god i made it to the top. After hiking from the South rim that morning in cool temps i arrived to the north rim with snow. I was totally not prepared for the snow. I got a ride to the park. And snow was falling could not see. So i bolted to the showers to get cleaned up. Hot hot showers and went to the laundry room to wash clothes . Did not leave that laundry that night. When everyone was finished washing there clothes i just turned off the lights locked the door and slept under the table.. Woke up to snow covered terrain, Was stunning that was the first time I had ever been in snow. Spent a few hours in the store drinking coffee and carbing up.

Has to be one of the best campgrounds in the country

This has to be one of the best campgrounds in the country. Great little trails on the rim of the canyon, great general store with a little bit of everything, ranger programs, cheezy chuck wagon dinner. clean facilities and great staff. I was a little surprise how wet and cold it was in late June. Rain and sprinkles came in late afternoon/early evening. Wasn't terrible, but it really cooled things down. Just be sure to make reservations well in advance. They fill up quick.

Less crowded than South Rim, both are lovely

The first time I saw the Grand Canyon was waking up at this campground. I'll never forget that feeling and have brought so many friends on trips to experience it too. The main advantage of the North Rim is that it's harder to get to from the populated areas of AZ, so it's quieter. Tons of wildlife! Even if you can't do a difficult hike there are easy paths along the rim and place to just sit and watch the light change. Watch the sunrise/set. Winter is even more lovely though can still be crowded (avoid Christmas/New Year's). This is a National Park campground so is very high quality. All the sites are about the same from what we've experienced and all are quite nice. Very close to trail along the rim, making for a great pre-breakfast or midnight walk. Make reservations! Good accessible sites.

Close to the view with many amenities

I stayed here while on a geology fieldtrip in 2012 and it was a wonderful campground. The campground had ample room for all of us students, clean restrooms, and a shower facility. The pine forest setting was an unexpected surprise for the AZ desert. The campground had a small general store that had camping essentials and ice cream – a great treat after hiking on the North Kaibab Trail. There are a few scenic areas and hiking trails that you can walk to from the campground, which was great for our large group. The campground wasn’t too crowded despite being a weekend in late May during an eclipse. Though the N Rim can be a bit more out of the way than the S Rim, it is truly just as beautiful and imho nicer because there are fewer crowds. The N Rim has the same views and equal amounts of hiking and is a great option for those seeking fewer crowds.

Make Reservations Early

The North Rim has gorgeous views, but it is small compared to the South Rim and camp spots fill up early. Make reservations as soon as you think that's where you want to stay, there are no opportunities to camp in the park except with a back country permit, other than in the campground. Laundry, showers, food and other lodging is not far from the camping area. This is a National Park, so take advantage of the history, the beauty and the education, you will be better for it.

35 feet from the edge

It's quite amazing to wake up in the morning with the Grand Canyon within a stones throw of your tent! Campsites are more secluded than I expected, but you can still see other campers. It is a great experience to sleep next to this fabulous part of creation, even if only for a night! I highly recommend seeing the Grand Canyon from the North Rim and camping if possible.
