FR195
Quite and off the busy path Elk at night
FR 195 is a great dispersed camping site- but don’t expect it to be quiet during peak season! We’ve been a few times throughout the summer and then in early November… very quiet in November but throughout the summer it is packed.
There were many numbered we’ll maintained site however having AT&T I had no service and as a solo camper I didn’t want to chance if something happened so I left. Went mid week and there were plenty of site would go back again if I had a group to keep my company
The sites are marked and very well separated. The particular site we were at was a bit rocky, but plenty of room for 3 travel trailers, could have fit 4. The hike to the lake is rough at first between two campsites, then a long and reasonably smooth path, followed by a steep climb down (we had to carry our 2 year old). Once you are down to the water it is lightly trafficked and peaceful. There was only 10 people out there, including boats, and it was Labor Day weekend.
Spent 4 days at this campground, loved mostly everything about it! We arrived early Friday morning (10) and their were minimal sites left. Lots of traffic driving through the campgrounds Friday and all Friday night (until 12am). Sites are not as dispersed as I’d like, but they weren’t on top of each other! No bathrooms or dumpsters! Closest dumpster is at the Mongolian Rim campground and it is $3 a bag.
Great place easy access large campsites with a big fire pit grill already built in forest is 30ft away and your walking in the wilderness there are a lot of ATVs around on the weekends so it will be loud and lots of traffic is the only downside but on the weekdays it’s empty and wide open we hiked about two miles into the woods and got to follow a huge herd of ELK ! What a nice surprise for the kids I give five stars dogs kids and adults we all had a blast !
First time doing blm camping and holy cow!!! I could not have been more pleased. The spaces are so spread out that you feel like no one is around you! Each site is well taken care of and has a campfire ring ready to use. The exploring is endless at 195. Only downside is all dirt/gravel roads so not great for casual biking but overall I would highly recommend and will be going back soon!
Camped here this Labor Day weekend. Lots of people there but plenty of room. About a mile hike to Woods Canyon Lake. Caught plenty of delicious trout. Overall good experience. I will definitely be camping here again.
Nice campground. But really crowded on the weekends.
