Squirrel Cove Cabin — Decision Point Marine Park

Description

Decision Point State Marine Park is on the south side of Passage Canal approximately eight miles east of Whittier. The park is generally used by kayakers and small boat users, as there is no protected anchorage. The public use cabin in this park is located on the west side of Squirrel Cove.

Trash collection in not provided. Pack out what you pack in. When latrines are not available, bury human waste away from trails and sources of water, both fresh and salt.
Open fires are permitted only on ocean beaches, preferably below mean high tide. Fires elsewhere must be in a portable stove, metal-bottomed container or designated fire site.
Fishing and hunting regulations may be obtained from the Alaska Department of Fish & Game.
Discharge of firearms is prohibited within 1/2 mile of developed facilities. Target shooting is prohibited in all areas of the recreation area.
Be prepared to handle emergencies yourself. The recreation area is staffed seasonally by a ranger and volunteers who are not always available.

Decision Point State Marine Park is 8 miles east of Whittier and can be reached by private boat, kayak, float plane, or commercial water taxi. If using a private boat or kayak, please use the caution necessary for coastal Alaskan waters with respect to tides, weather, currents, and your party's abilities and experience level. No mooring buoys are provided at Decision Point SMP. Anchoring is at your own risk. If pulling a kayak, inflatable or small skiff ashore, be sure to secure your boat to avoid losing it at high tide or surf conditions. Charter boat shuttle services are available in the Whittier harbor. Arrangements can be made with them for drop-offs and pick-ups at Decision Point SMP.
