Perch on a hill

Great cabin on Crescent Lake for a long day hike or make it an overnight at the other cabin first. Be careful of avalanches in the spring even when most of the snow has melted

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reserve the Crescent Saddle Cabin in Alaska?

Crescent Saddle Cabin can be reserved through the Recreation.gov website or by calling the reservation line. Bookings typically open six months in advance, and the cabin is popular during summer months, so early reservations are recommended. The cabin operates on a first-come, first-served reservation basis, and you'll need to pay the cabin fee at the time of reservation. Be sure to print your reservation confirmation to bring with you, as there's no on-site manager. Contact the Chugach National Forest office for the most current reservation details and availability windows.

What amenities are available at Crescent Saddle Cabin?

Crescent Saddle Cabin is a rustic wilderness cabin with basic amenities. The cabin typically includes wooden bunks or sleeping platforms, a wood stove for heat, a table with benches, and a counter for food preparation. Outside, you'll find an outhouse toilet facility. There is no electricity, running water, or cell service. Visitors need to bring their own sleeping bags, cooking equipment, water treatment supplies, food, and other camping essentials. The cabin provides shelter from the elements but requires proper preparation for a remote backcountry experience.

How do I access Crescent Saddle Cabin on Crescent Lake?

Accessing Crescent Saddle Cabin requires a substantial hike along the Crescent Lake Trail. The trail can be completed as a demanding day hike or split into an overnight trip using another cabin along the route. In spring, hikers should be cautious of avalanche danger, even when most snow appears to have melted from the trail. The cabin is situated on Crescent Lake in a remote setting. Some visitors may also access the cabin via float plane landing on the lake or by boat, depending on conditions. Proper preparation for backcountry travel is essential regardless of your chosen access method.
