Wind Creek State Park Campground offers camping options near Lake Martin, approximately 40 miles from Notasulga. The campground features multiple camping loops with full hookup sites that accommodate RVs and tents, though no dedicated horse corrals are available. Campground reviews indicate the park maintains hiking and horseback riding trails through wooded areas, with paths ranging from 1 to 15 miles that can be utilized by horses, bikes, or hikers. The campground provides standard amenities including electric hookups, water access, restrooms with showers, and sewer connections at select sites.

The trail system accommodates equestrians along with other users, though riders should verify current trail conditions before arrival. Waterfront sites require advance booking, with premium locations often reserved months ahead, especially during peak seasons. The park's location on Lake Martin provides water activities alongside trail riding opportunities. Many sites are situated close together, which reviews suggest makes the campground better suited for social family camping rather than secluded equestrian experiences. Campers should note that while horses are permitted on trails, the campground itself lacks specific equine amenities such as corrals, wash racks, or designated horse camping areas that would be found at dedicated equestrian campgrounds.

      Very nice amenities

State park. Very pretty and lots of trees. Camp with all amenities (a bit pricey) or with no hook ups. Lots to do. Family oriented. Lots of trees and lots of waterfront lots on the shores of one of Alabamas most beautiful lakes.

      Wind Creek State Park Campground

      Summer in December

Camped here to ring out the old and ring in 2022 with a group of Sisters. The staff was professional and quick at check in, even inquired if I was aware of the forecasted incoming weather during my stay and explained emergency procedures. HUGE campground. All the sites are nice sized, though an update is needed on pavement, pads and amenities. They keep what they have well maintained. Tree top, mini golf and archery activities are present. Of course you are on the at one time largest man made lake so all those water activities. There are nice trails that are adequately marked. Once again updates would be nice. There is an Equine campground and a contractor for trail rides nearby if you don’t have your own horse. The area offers many small towns with antiquing and interesting local businesses/restaurants. Worth a visit for a weekend or week of your summer if you can get a reservation.

      Wind Creek State Park Campground

      Great all around campground

This is one of the largest state run campgrounds with over 500 sites. We stayed at site 100 it was an excellent site right on the water next to us was like a private beach. This is the only public access to Lake Martin. Large lake for swimming, boating, fishing. Sites are very open to each other but a lot of shade. Bathhouses are large and very well taken care of but I did not have any hot water at the time. Bathhouse was also a bit of a hike from site but had parking area so we drove over there and included a nice laundry facility. Several hiking trails fishing and other outdoor activities at this park. Cabins are available and premium campsites that have 50 amp service, water, sewer, cable and waterfront access. This park is close to stores and restaurants within a 20 minute drive. This campground definitely has a lot of amenities.

      Great Location for Birding

If you’re into birding, this is a great spot. The campground is located on West Point Lake, where bald eagles soar. There are also two parks very close by that are for ideal bird watchng, even in the winter, where a variety of migratory species congregate! Here is a link to the lake's birding page.

Campsites on the water’s edge provides easy access for swimming, fishing and kayaking, but camping in the fall on the hill with a deck overlooking the lake provides beautiful views of the lake.

I gave it a 4-star rating instead of 5 because the restrooms could use a good cleaning and updating.

      Blanton Creek Park Georgia Power

      Family friendly and extremely clean

We spent one night here to check it out, but we will definitely be going back! We stayed in spot #14, which is not right on the water but across the street. When we got there Friday afternoon we had a great view of the lake, but after 5:00 the place filled up quickly. If you want an unobstructed view of the lake you should rent a lakeside spot. But we had plenty of trees to string the hammock on, whereas the lakeside spots have fewer trees. All lots seemed pretty well shaded (a BIG plus here in Georgia in the Summer) and there are trails to walk that are shaded.

The person at check-in was extremely friendly and helpful, and the resident manager came by a couple of times to make sure we had everything we needed. They had the cleanest bathhouse I have ever seen (see pix) and a resident who had been there a while said they clean the bathrooms several times a day. This campground is very clean and well maintained. Definitely a 5 star experience.

      Great place to go camping!

Awesome campground. If you look at the map you’ll see that some sites are full hook-up and some are not. We stayed in C section with full hook-ups. They have playgrounds throughout the campground, trails from 1 mile long to 15 miles long that can be utilized by horse, bike, or on foot. Boat rentals include two different places. The marina for motorized jon boats and pontoon boats. You can rent these for 4-48 hours. If you’re renting one of their boats then you need a vessel license. If you don’t have a vessel licenses then you can take the test at the marina. At the Creem Shop (they sell ice cream, burgers, etc) you can rent pedal boats and canoes. They have a zip line and tree line adventure course, mini-golf, a beach area for swimming, and plenty of fishing spots. They also offer church services on Sunday morning. Check in is at 4 pm and check out is at 2 pm. Spots are close together but I’ve seen worse. Campground is clean and wasn’t noisy. We will definitely be coming back for a longer stay in the future.

      Spacious lakefront sites

Great, quiet park with lots of walking and biking trails nearby. All the sites are wooded and spaced out so you don’t have any issues with privacy. From what we could tell, all of the sites have direct lake access. We visited in July and because of the tree coverage, we were able to sit outside most of the day without getting too hot. This is definitely one of our new favorite parks!

Great sites, friendly people, nice trails nearby

Check in was quick and easy. We had an amazing site with a great waterfront view perfect for sunsets. Kids thoroughly enjoyed playing at the edge of the water. The nearby restroom was old but serviceable and the playground was small. Trailhead is a short drive and the trails we went on were very nice. Late checkout (3pm) was so nice. Overall, a great campground. Will definitely return in the future.

Spacious waterfront sites: Premium waterfront locations at Wind Creek are highly valued. Rachel G. reports, "We stayed at site 100 it was an excellent site right on the water next to us was like a private beach." These sites combine water access with enough space for equipment storage.

Family-friendly atmosphere: The campground caters well to families with children. "We love camping at Wind Creek. lots to do for the kiddos!" according to Jessi B. What you should know

Site spacing considerations: Campsite proximity varies throughout Wind Creek. Rachel G. observes, "Sites are very open to each other but a lot of shade." For those seeking more privacy while camping with horses, requesting specific sites or visiting during off-peak seasons is advisable.

Bathroom facilities: Bathhouse quality and proximity varies by location within Wind Creek. Rachel G. notes, "Bathhouses are large and very well taken care of but I did not have any hot water at the time. Bathhouse was also a bit of a hike from site but had parking area so we drove over there and included a nice laundry facility." Consider this when selecting sites if frequent bathroom access is important.

Seasonal activity levels: R. Shaefer Heard Campground experiences significant variations in crowd levels and activities by season. Ginger S. advises about Wind Creek, "This campground is a better place for the summer not much to do in the winter. It's a place for swimming, fishing, and boat riding." Tips for camping with families

Lakefront site selection: For family trips, certain waterfront locations offer better features. Kim T. recommends, "Secluded campground with RV and tent sites right on Lake Martin." These sites provide direct water access while maintaining some privacy for families with pets or horses.

Playgrounds and recreational options: Wind Creek provides multiple entertainment options for children. Tips from RVers

Signal strength considerations: Connectivity varies throughout the campground. Matthew K. advises, "Only negative is that the wifi is not strong, but Verizon signal is great." RVers requiring reliable internet access should verify coverage for their specific carrier, especially when planning longer stays.

Site selection for larger rigs: Not all sites accommodate larger trailers or motorhomes with horse trailers. Rachel G. notes Wind Creek has "premium campsites that have 50 amp service, water, sewer, cable and waterfront access." These premium sites offer more amenities but require advance booking, especially for equestrian campers needing additional parking space for trailers.
