All campsites are reservable only. Call the Call Center at 1-877-996-7275 to make a reservation. Lake Shore open year-round. 

Lake Shore Bay Campground has 36 sites, an active day use area and a highly used boat ramp. Lake Shore generally has more visitor traffic. There is very little irrigated turf at Lake Shore but it does have a bubbler system for watering trees. There is no playground and is better suited for campers who are planning on boating or campers spending part of the day in town or touring the area. 

Daily use fees and camping fees are charged separately.

Visitors staying overnight are required to pay both fees.

Camping fees do not include daily use fees.

Annual camping permits do not cover daily use fees.

Located about 40 miles from Yellowstone National Park's east entrance and 9 miles from Cody, Wyoming, the Park is in an excellent location to explore the area's rich history, sightseeing and wildlife. Mountains dominate the scenery at Buffalo Bill State Park. Shoshone Canyon, where the dam is located, is framed by Rattlesnake Mountain to the north and Cedar Mountain (also known as Spirit Mountain) to the south. Farther west, along the north shoreline, lies Logan Mountain. The north and south forks of the Shoshone River are divided by Sheep Mountain, while prominent on the southern skyline is Carter Mountain. All are part of the Rocky Mountain Absaroka (Ab-ka) Range. Elevations vary from approximately 5,400 feet in the state park to more than 12,000 feet in the Absarokas.

Additional Vehicle Permits are not available online and must be purchased in person at a park or selling agent.  Proof of original purchase and vehicle registration are required.

Wood River Campground hosts five sites located along the beautiful Wood River. This shaded, peaceful campground provides relaxation during hot summer days. Wood River

Off the beaten path with a quick commute to the center of town, this rare space offers solitude surrounded by picturesque views. Only one RV/camp site is available with plenty of parking. Tent camping is allowed in addition campers. There are no toilet/shower facilities available. The site offers a private escape with city water hook up along with electric (20amp, 30amp, 50amp). Free tank dump location is a short drive into Cody.



Loopy Lasso

Clearwater Campground is located along the Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway, about 32 miles west of Cody, in northwestern Wyoming. It is 20 miles east of the east entrance to Yellowstone National Park. The surrounding area offers many outdoor recreational opportunities, including fishing, hiking and viewing local wildlife. Recreation Great opportunities for hiking, fishing, scenic driving and wildlife viewing are available around the campground. The North Fork of the Shoshone River is a popular fly-fishing location for rainbow and Yellowstone cutthroat trout. Facilities The campground offers one group camping area, which provides private parking, three large picnic tables, two food storage lockers and campfire circle. ***ATTENTION: IT IS PROHIBITED FOR THE GROUP SITE TO EXCEED GROUPS OF 25 OR MORE PEOPLE AS PER THE WYOMING STATE HEALTH OFFICER PUBLIC HEALTH ORDER (MAY 13, 2020)*** Additionally, 11 single-family campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, campfire ring and food storage locker. Vault toilets and trash collection are provided, but drinking water is not available. Campers may gather firewood from the area. Natural Features The campground is situated on the banks of the North Fork of the Shoshone River and has beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Douglas fir and large juniper trees cover the campground, which sits at an elevation of 6,000 feet. A wide variety of wildlife lives in the area. Visitors often glimpse grizzly bears, deer, elk, bison, moose, fox, coyotes and bald eagles. Nearby Attractions Pahaska Tepee, west of the campground, is home to Buffalo Bill's original hunting lodge, built in 1904. Tours are offered daily between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Pahaska also offers guided horseback rides, a gift shop, restaurant and lodging. Yellowstone National Park's east entrance is 25 miles from the campground via the Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway. The park offers unparalleled wildlife viewing opportunities, as well as breathtaking scenery and unique geological features. The small, historic city of Cody offers a variety of dining, lodging and shopping options. The Buffalo Bill Historical Center offers extensive displays of Greater Yellowstone natural history, Plains Indians artifacts, western art, firearms, Buffalo Bill memorabilia and a wild sheep exhibit. Wapiti Campground hosts 41 campsites on the North Fork of the Shoshone River, next to the historic Wapiti Ranger Station. "Wapiti" (pronounced WA-puh-tee) is the American Indian word for "elk."

Visit the nearby Wapiti Wayside to learn about grizzly bears, other wildlife, and general visitor information. The trailhead from the campground leads into the Washakie Wilderness via Elk Fork Creek. No cell service is available.

Although abundant, camping in Wyoming is extremely sought after, especially near the park. Twelve campgrounds within Yellowstone National Park provide adventurers with plentiful options, but planning ahead is vital. The Canyon Campground allows easy access to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, a picture-perfect waterfall and river vista in the north-central region. Visit Artist’s Point and hike the 300 feet down to the lower falls to feel the rush of the Yellowstone River. 


For a more touristy experience, snag a site in the Madison Campground. Being one of the largest in the park and less than 20 miles from the famous geyser Old Faithful, this area is a go-to for first time visitors. Sitting at an elevation just below 7,000 feet, the crisp mountain air will refresh. This area gets a lot of traffic, so pack in your patience and remember that the parks are for everyone to enjoy. 


Camping in Wyoming also gives the chance to get off the grid. Grand Teton National Park is directly to the south of Yellowstone and allows for some easy-access backpacking. When done right, you can avoid the droves of humanity that flock to the Greater Yellowstone region. 


For an easy trek into the backcountry, get a scenic spot along Leigh Lake or String Lake. These camping sites are often booked months in advance, so get them quick! A hidden gem tucked in the shadow of Mount Moran is Bearpaw Lake and is also relatively accessible from the same trail. Remember your bear spray and enjoy some genuine Wyoming camping!

Meeteetse, Wyoming is located about 30 miles south of Cody on State Highway 120. The Greybull Ranger District is accessed from Meeteetse, using State Highway 290 along the beautiful Wood River. The ghost town of Kirwin on the Shoshone National Forest is a two-hour drive on the Wood River Road (the last few miles are rough - 4-wheel drive recommended). Meeteetse is a small town with wooden boardwalks, hitching rails, and water troughs on main street. From Meeteetse, you can access the Absaroka Mountains and the Wyoming Bad Lands.

Brown Mountain

This remote campground hosts seven sites nestled in a small valley between Piney Pass and Phelps Mountain. Trailhead area has parking, hitching rails, corrals, and feeders. 16-day stay limit Water: Not available This site is not accessible to persons with mobility impairments No cell service Notes: Stock can be watered in Jack Creek or the Greybull River. Livestock are not allowed in the campground but may pass through to access trails or parking. Stock trailers should be parked in the trailhead or horse camping area. Loose stock is not allowed.
