Wow
I am giving this place 4 stars, even though this didn’t truly reflect my experience. I’ll start with the good.
Stoney Creek is an incredibly well-groomed rv resort that I have already enthusiastically recommended to a friend who has an rv and a young family. The amenities are amazing. Chlorinated swimming pond, two pools, skate park, playground, laser tag, mini golf, jumping pillow, in addition to events like outdoor movies. I’m probably forgetting something. The lots are nice sites in a variety of settings, I prefer the wooded sites that are close to where the laser tag is.
The woods are where the tent sites are, and I cannot recommend actually staying here in a tent. I-94 is RIGHT there- there is a break in the tree-line that you can see the vehicles through. I wound up sleeping in my car to have an added barrier between me and the freeway noise, and I still struggled even with ear plugs and a pillow over my head. The campsites also have a light by each of them, so bring an eye mask if you are camping here and sensitive to light.
Some of our friends stayed in the cottage that is right next to the tent sites and they said they were able to hear the traffic too. The small cottages do not have bathrooms, interior doors, interior running water, or kitchen basics. The cabins I believe do.
My friend planned this trip and I basically told her that I liked this place, but as a kid-free tent camper it is not a place that I need to return to. We originally had two nights reserved but we only stayed one night because of the freeway. I’m sure that my friends will return and stay in one of the nicer cabins next time since this isn’t too far from home and you never really need to leave since you have so many activities onsite.
Helpful hints
- the fried food at the pool is very very good. You can also get alcoholic slushees.
- the Nickel is a short walk down the road. The latte drinks were not great when I was there (i ordered a cappuccino and I’m not sure what I got, but it wasn’t even a latte. I recommend sticking to straight coffee), but apparently their bagels are very good.
-the Norske Nook restaurant is close by -I’m not sure if this is an every weekend thing or was just specific to the week that I was there, but ok Friday night they would deliver pizza to your site and Saturday morning they would deliver donuts if you ordered in advance -the bathrooms are nice, it costs a quarter for every 4 minutes of showering -quiet hours start at 11pm, this is kind of late. Curfew is at 10, but we still had kids at the nearby skate park at 10:30.
