Pine tree sites in the park

$22 for a tent site but you will also have to pay or have a park pass to get into Olympic NP. Bathrooms are basic with no showers. Water spigots at restrooms. Sites are level and come with fire ring and table. Quiet and wildlife visible.

Not my favorite NP campground

One of two reservable campgrounds in Olympic National Park, I chose this because we would be here over a weekend and didn’t want to chance not being able to find a campsite. It’s a long drive in so you would not want to arrive and not find a place to rest your head. By late Friday night, the campground was full. There is an RV section with hookups and two other loops with no hookups. Our site(B70) was a bit awkward and we ended up pulling our van in forward instead of backing in, otherwise our heads would have been lower than our feet. This space could easily accommodate two cars if you were tent camping. Our senior lifetime pass was not accepted at this campground as it was listed as an RV campground. However, upon arrival, I didn’t understand why they called it an RV campground. There were no hookups or other amenities that would make it any different than a tent-only facility in the A and B loops. In fact, many of the sites had pads that would not accommodate anything larger than our 17-foot van. The bathrooms were reasonably clean and had soap. No hot water or showers but again, typical of National Park campgrounds. Quiet hours were not enforced and, in fact, the people in Site 65 were loud until 2:30 am. The next morning, garbage was strewn all over their site, an ax was still stuck in wood, and food was left out all over the table, including a jar of honey(I swear I am not making this up). This campground has signs at the entrance and on every site picnic table that it is an active bear area and how important it is to keep a clean campsite. By 10 am, everyone at the site was still asleep, and neither the camp host nor ranger had done nothing to roust/oust them. (By the time we returned from our hike/soak in the hot springs, they were gone but the people who came after had to clean up the site.) The main draw to this campground is Sol Duc Falls and the hot springs. It is over a six-mile hike roundtrip from the campground to the falls and there is a trail to the hot springs(or you can drive to the trailhead and walk.08 mile to the falls). There is an additional charge for the hot springs($15 for adults,$11 for 62 and older; optional towel rental for$3) but it is so worth it to soak your weary muscles after a hike, despite the crowds. The bonus is being able to take a shower since there are none in the campground. No cell service. We would stay here again only if we wanted to visit Sol Duc Falls or the hot springs but it was not my favorite campground.

Great campground near Sol Duc Falls

We stayed at Sul Duc campground in early June. We stayed at site A-11. It was definitely one of the bigger sites and had more privacy and access to the river. We only had neighbors on one side and a nice grove of trees on the other. There is a bit of a steep incline from where you park your car down to the site. The site isn’t directly on the main river but on a small offshoot but if you are brave enough to walk thru the cold water or over some fallen trees you can get over to the main Sol Duc river - we had it all to ourselves and it was very relaxing! You can hear the river from the site which was nice. We were close to the restrooms and they were decent. You have to get firewood at the Hot Springs Resort - which we thought was too far to walk so we drove up. Their grocery store has ice and firewood and souvenirs and a good selection of essentials if you forgot anything. We skipped the Hot Springs - too crowded and not worth the price. We drove up to the Sol Duc Falls trailhead and walked the 0.8 miles in to see the falls - so amazing! The campground location made it easy to travel to the Hoh Rainforest and Lake Crescent nearby.

Lush and majestic

Beautiful stay here on Loop B. It was a great place to stay, we would have stayed in a different site, we were in 060 and it was ok, but lots of passersby. Hiking was simple to find and the waterfalls were in plentiful supply. We had a small rodent stuck in the car for a bit, so I wouldn't recommend setting up camp while your car doors remain open. Amateur move for sure. The bathrooms were clean too. Reserve with confidence.

Good Base for Hiking and Hot Springs

The highlight of Sol Duc was the long loop hike around the waterfalls. We were disappointed with the hot springs as they felt more like a crowded public pool than the wonder of nature that I'm sure they once were. We did enjoy the showers at the hot springs through after a very wet camping day.

The campground is pretty big (80+ sites I believe) and is quite spread out and booked out well in advance. You'll want to take note of the facilities are when you make your reservation. Bookings for the summer through October can be reserved beginning the end of April.

While all the campsites were a vit close on Loop A, we hardly even heard or noticed anyone. It was amazing to fall asleep with the Sol Duc river close by and a nice little hike to the Sol Duc falls simply made this camping weekend amazing!! It made the extreme cold that night so worth it.

Beautiful forest campground

The campground is in a beautiful forest and the loops are relatively spread out but near enough to the hot springs resort for soaking or other amenities. Some of the spots are close together but they seem nice for RV’s, but not as private as I personally like while tent camping. The nearby hike to Sol Duc waterfalls is a nice activity while you are staying at this campground.

Beautiful campground

We stayed here while exploring Olympic National Park and really enjoyed it! We stayed in loop A site 10. The site was beautiful, under the trees and overlooking the water. We fit two tents at the site comfortably. Nobody occupied the adjacent two sites, but the were a little close together. There was a nice picnic table and fire ring. We were very close to the restrooms, which were clean. They did not have showers, but we were able to shower free at the Sol Duc resort about 5 minutes away. It is $15 if you want access to the hot springs and showers, but since we only wanted a shower, they didn't charge us. The Sol Duc Falls trailhead was about 5 minutes from the campground. Definitely worth seeing.

Must Go-To

I am at awestruck at this campground. There is no cellular service out there, but you can go in to the neighboring Hot Spring Resort for supplies and help with campsite if the camp management is not available. Or to buy services at the Hot Springs. There are cards at the entrance of camp loops to say where you are as well, but I was honestly confused by that. There are no showers at the campground, but does have flush toilets. There are campsites butting up to the river, a couple are a walk down into the site. All campsites are about double the size of normal campsites and are gorgeous. We actually set up our tent and realized we had a whole other area that had much more room for the tent. There was a pesky raccoon that was hopping between sites looking for anything. He tried stealing lighter fluid that was in a bag, he stole cans and candy, and a purse. (He brings it all to the center shrubbery if you unluckily meet him). He's adorable, but dont trust him if he shows up. There is a trail with an outstanding waterfall that you must see.

Lovely Campground.

This campground was very nice. We actually stayed in the RV campground. There is a lodge which is just a small little hike on a trail that runs along the sol duc river. There is no actual bathroom in the RV campground, which if you have an RV it will be no problem. If you do not have a RV, then stay in the actual tent campground, where there are restrooms. The lodge has restrooms and shower but the lodge is not open all night long.

This is a cool place to camp. Tucked inside a moss-covered forest in Olympic Park, you are in a place that is very unique. There are hot springs, but they charge by the day and it isn’t cheap. Stock up before you get to the park, the nearest town is about 40 mins away. Also, the RV Park is really just a parking lot, so be aware of this. If you have a camper or tent, go into the campground part. Sol Duc falls is very close also, and worth the short hike. It was a great experience, very glad we camped here.

The south campgrounds both have direct river sites to camp while the north ones have a small tributary as well. You can hike directly from either loop A or B to Sol Duc falls or the lovers loop. This is a moderate hike of about 3.8 miles. Early mornings the trail heads were clear and I had the entire loop to myself to enjoy myriad birds and critters everywhere. From the day use Area thee are three trail heads with many scenic and breath taking views. There is a hot springs resort not too far down the road that is $15 for the day. It is crowded with kids on the weekend yet weekdays and early mornings (opens at 9am but when you're too hip like me and find a deadhead on staff she might let you in early too! The fee site is at the camp entrance with ample envelopes. This site is a mix of reserved and walk up. Tent sites, camper van, and full hook ups available. Temps were brisk in evenings in mid July. We stayed in loop A because the rest of the campground was closed on site 9 the first night, then moved to site 10 because someone else had the site reserved after us. We brought a huge tarp to hang over the picnic table and the fire because it rained on an off the whole time while we were there. Both sites are pretty much right on the river surrounded by huge Sitka Spruce so it gave us some amazing sites. The bathrooms and potable water are very nearby, but not an annoyance at all. The campground host Bill was awesome and very accommodating with questions or requests we had. He even offered to allow us to camp in loop B if we wanted. We opted not to because we didn't want to tear down our camp again, but loop B, we talked through and if you don't need to be by the river, it's an awesome loop surrounded by huge old trees. There's a hiking trail all the way from the campground to the waterfalls and I highly recommend doing it, great views in the forest and along the river. If you need anything general food wise, the hot springs resort has a little shop as well as a restaurant if you don't feel like making food at your site. We were even able to use the showers at the resort in the locker rooms (locker room style showers, not private).

Ranger Review: Camping in the rain forest

Campsite Review: This campground in the Sol Duc Valley is composed of several different loops and setups for every type of adventurer. In addition to the lodge with a general store and restaurants, there is an RV only parking lot which seemed a little different as it’s just a parking lot with hookups and a table at the end of each space. There was no separation whatsoever between them. However, the loops are more set into the fairytale-like forest and you feel much more like you’re actually in the rain forest. The campsites themselves seemed to all be kind of small, and a little close together but with nice flat areas, tables, fire ring, and lots and lots of underbrush you can’t really see your neighbors. We stayed at site 38 in loop A which had a nice tent spot set out under the trees along with a decent table and fire ring set back from what is basically a parking lot that was open to the road. When getting your site be careful about the exact size allotment if you’re in a larger vehicle, because these sizes didn’t seem correct. This site is listed as being a 35’ back-in, but it really is just a shared parking lot between this and the site next to it (37) across from the central restrooms. While the site might say it’ll fit your vehicle, the roads are narrow and there are a good number of trees and branches around which may impede your maneuvering if you’re in something large. Because our site and the one next to it have “spaces” for 2 vehicles each, we did have a few people whom would pull up park in the “lot” and then explore around the campground and loop at the board for available spaces which was a little annoying, but at least they aren’t walking through our site.

The toilet facilities in Loop A were clean, but could have used a good once over. They seemed to have been maintained, just not super regularly and thankfully no guests had come in and destroyed them. There was hand soap but unfortunately the hand dryers were broken (which I normally like because of the reduction of trash, but dislike because of the increased noise they produce). You have some potable water/dish cleaning spigots, but nothing is there to catch the waste. There are also a couple of bear proof trash cans and the camp host sold fire wood (pricey at $8 a bundle). However, you can collect downed wood whenever the host isn’t selling wood.

Amenities: standard picnic tables, fire rings, plus flush toilets, potable water, & bear/cougar proof trash cans |Prohibited: pets off-leash

Nearby Hikes: Sol Duc Falls, exploring some old growth forest with a waterfall (highly recommended), Lover’s Lane, Ancient Groves, a self guided nature trail, & a couple lake trails

You’re also just down the road from the Sol Duc Hot Springs, which is 3 different pools with the water pumped into them. At $15 a person, this seemed a little pricey, but you do get access to the showers, so if you’re really desperate it might be an option to clean up and then relax after some strenuous hikes.

The hike getting here was so worth it

The whole of Sol Duc was incredible. This is a good place for backpackers to set up after a day out there. The whole way was pretty damp/muddy on a relatively clear June Day so rain pants and a few pairs of socks are recommended.

camping + hot springs!

Sol Duc campground is great! After exploring and hiking all day you can retreat to the hot springs for a soak! AND they now offer a reservation system so you no longer have to race there with your fingers crossed you'll find a spot! win/win!

Loveliest campground in Olympic National Park

This is a national park campground with perks. First, it's stunningly gorgeous - most of the campground is nestled in moss-coated old-growth cedar/hemlock forest. But second, you're walking distance from the Sol Duc camp store, where you can buy all the things you forgot to pack (plus some extremely reasonably priced and well-selected beers). Third, if you forgot to pack ANY food at all there's a fantastic restaurant on site, and if that wasn't enough there's the hot springs to attract you here. Can't imagine what else you'd want at a campground!

  • These stellar's jays were FEARLESS. beware equally fearless gray jays, chickarees, raccoons, and slightly more skittish nighttime campsite visitors like black bears and deer.

Accessible Other-Worldly Beauty

We absolutely loved the Sol Duc Falls hike which passes through the campgrounds. It is a very easy hike (we took a two year old and he walked 50% of it) and very rewarding. The coolest part was how much you felt like you were in a different world. It almost made me feel like I was in Jurassic Park or something! Just a note: it is WA so plan on getting wet and muddy. Everything was constantly wet around Sol Duc. Plan and pack accordingly!

Great Campsite, but not the most private.

Sol Duc is great! The campsite has the river right next to it and there are a lot of old growth trees which create a fair amount of shade. The campsites are pretty close together and there isn't anything separating your campsite from your neighbors, so privacy is not amazing. It was beautiful and there are lots of hikes to do in the area. The bathrooms were a little on the grimy side, but you can take a shower at the resort if you use the pools, which is good to know in case you get super dirty from a hike.
