The Best Camping Near Othello, Washington

Scootney is definitely a surprising oasis in the desert of eastern washington.  Its camp ground is dry with no trailer hookups, but a dump site if you need it.  The fishing is great and the locals fish out here all the time.  Bass and walleye are caught almost year round here.  The lake is in the scrub land though so there is not a whole lot of shade.  Be prepared it can get really hot out there.  The swimming area is nice and open and the day use section of the park is used by locals all year round.  

An oasis in the desert

I live 9 miles from Scootney Park, and my husband and I love coming here for a quick and easy camping weekend. the sites have nice thick green grass, and shade. The bathrooms are clean and you can’t beat the fun you can have on the water! Great fishing, tubing, swimming and lots of wildlife. 

Great little campground

While the annual month-long algae bloom had this place shut down, it looked very well-run.  Lots of set-aside places to park, camp, swim, walk and roam too.  Would love to swing by again on a clear, star-filled evening.

Green Grass, Lots of Open Space

We tried to find a campground nearby because it was getting late and somehow this site never popped up on this app for me -but, we ended up seeing a sign for it and turned in and were pleasantly surprised. Water fountains, sinks, flush toilets, fire pits and all of that. There are (harmless) spiders all over the trees and bushes (but I've read that about almost all of the surrounding campgrounds). Not sure whether they enforce payments or not, but the sign said it was $15 per site with $5 for an additional car. This was a nice place to stop in the middle of nowhere. Also, most of the campsites were empty so we were able to have our pick from some great spots.  Plus, we made friends with a very friendly cat who was staying there.

Nice sites, some privacy.  Ok clean flush toilets but no water in the sink.  Water hub near each site.  Picnic tables, fire pit.  Place for big gatherings.  Fishing is the big draw here. $15 night or $7.50 for seniors and disabled.

Well maintained, beautiful setting

I was able to fit my 35’ trailer and truck in a spot with the tires at the concrete tire-stop. The width of the parking spots were barely big enough with the slide out. The spaces are relatively close. This didn’t seem to matter as there were only a handful of spaces occupied when we arrived. We were able to get a space that had a great view o the lake, and I’m sure the  sunset would be great too if it weren’t from the wildfire smoke. No hookups. There is a dump station but was closed during our stay.  I would stay here again for the $15 fee.
