Sahale Glacier Camp in North Cascades National Park is surrounded by rugged mountain terrain. Temperatures can range from 30°F to 70°F depending on the season. Nearby, visitors can explore Cascade Pass and the scenic vistas of the North Cascades.

Sahale Glacier Camp is a collection of flat spots ringed with rocks piled up against the wind. Camping in the Sahale Glacier Camp requires a backcountry permit, available on a first-come, first-served basis at the ranger station in Marblemount.

Sahale Glacier Camp — North Cascades National Park

Camping in the North Cascades is an unforgettable experience. Near Seattle, WA, the national park is a nature lover’s paradise. It’s also home to some of the best camping in Washington state. Take an early hike from the campground for bird watching — there are more than 200 species in the park. Grey wolves, deer, and squirrels also call the park home, along with elusive wolverines. Hike into the campground and pitch a tent, or stay comfortably in a cabin or yurt. RV drivers can pull up to their campsites. They are only a stroll away from mountain waterfalls, alpine meadows, and stunning glaciers.

North Cascades National Park

The Best Camping Near North Cascades National Park, Washington

This is a hard hike.  I saw people doing it as a day hike, and I was surprised.  But it has some of the most incredible scenery in the PNW.  From the forests, to the alpine meadows, to the lake, and up, all the way to the campsite.  Permits are required.  Camping at the base of a glacier is something I would recommend for anyone.  The views are incredible, well worth the hike.  I explored the area up there, and followed a glacier stream.  It's a spectacular spot.

Sahale Arm Glacier Camp

Gorgeous backcountry campground, complete with composting toilet with the best view ever!  Many of the sites sit on top of glacial moraines and are walled in with rocks to reduce wind.  Water is easy access from meltwater from snow and glacier.  No fire pits available.  This is the perfect site for a medium sized group, with a number of “tucked away” spots for individuals, couples, etc.  The views of the glacially carved valleys and multiple glaciers/snowfields is fantastic.  Bear canisters are required, as there are no trees in this alpine environment.  While we didn’t see any bears, mountain goats and mice were prevalent.  Cost=free!  Permit required from NOCA Wilderness Information Center in Marblemount.

Not an easy hike, but views totally worth it!

These campsites are HARD to get to, but it’s worth it. Like, way more worth it than any other campground in the area. There’s a pit toilet, and the sites have rock walls built around them because this area is known to get heavy winds.
