Calming beauty

We love staying right on the creek, the view and sound of it is the best. The ones down by the creek don’t have an electric or water but they’re so worth it. The bathroom is at the top of the hill so that’s kind of a pain but the the only downfall for us. Everyone has always been kind and friendly, our dogs love it here too!

Great place for the price

The good: We came for 2 nights during the week. Easy check-in, found our site (T3) and set up right on the water. Host was also keen to set us up as far apart (in our group of sites) from another family that came in the same day as to give us both maximum privacy and seclusion. Sites T1-T5 are a couple hundred yards down a fairly rocky path which was a booger to haul supplies up and down as you park and carry.

Firewood was on honor system and very reasonably priced.

The not great: Bathhouses left much to be desired and were, very truthfully, some of the worst I’ve seen. When you’re primitive camping with kids, a semi-clean bathhouse is important. Additionally, the entire property seemed like it was overdue for just a good cleaning up. Not trashy by any means, but a little attention to detail would go a long way.

Nonetheless, for what we paid ($35/night) it was well worth it and I would return again any time. Host was very hospitable and welcoming and I’m glad we tried this place out.

Peaceful

We stayed here for 2 nights during the week and it was very quiet and peaceful. The rate for our 22 foot RV with full hookups was unbeatable. AJ, the owner, was great from the day we called to make our reservation to the day we checked out. Our site was up on the ridge close to the road but we could still hear and see the river of the falls from our site. The sound of the water was so soothing. The RV site could be a challenge to get her in and out of if you have a bigger trailer but we did well with our crew can Tundra and 22 footer. We didn't like being right next to the road when we'd first got to the site but soon realized that the road was not well traveled so there was no noticeable road noise and our kids are old enough to understand not to go up to the road. While I didn't personally use the bathhouse one of my fellow travelers did and gave it a 5 star, I'd poop here again, rating. The actual park with the falls was a short trip up the road 1/2 mile and a beautiful hike. We had two dogs plus our kids with us to hike it which was a mistake. Dogs were hard to manage in this trail with two kids as the rocks are slippery and there wasn't a railing on all of the hike for the littles to hold on to, narrow trail. We can't wait to revisit in the summer with hopes to splash in the river.

Second Time, STILL Amazing

I’ve camped at a completely different part of this place before which was a site without access to bathrooms and showers. This site had access to that and was a little farther away from the car but still as amazing! Although you had to drive a bit to get to hiking trails, this site is located at the heart of the river.

Water Galore!

This place was so serene and secluded. Each campsite was a little drive away from each other which was very nice in terms of privacy. You could drive into the campground so you didn’t have to carry everything. Plus, the campsites have trails that go directly to the river!

Great hike

Beautiful hike. We were with a group of 5 kids under 6 years old and we made it to the top huffing and puffing. It was well kept and worth the climb.

River Spots 👍🏼

The river spots are amazing - just a short walk from parking. So peaceful and the sound of the river drowns out any nearby noise. Friendly owners and the little camp store has everything you may have forgotten. We love this campground and hope to return soon!

one of the best waterfalls

Hands down, one of the best waterfall hikes in the southeast. Great views, beautiful in the fall time, one of the best waterfalls I've seen, and an all around great hike. Just be sure to be careful not to climb out into the falls. Plenty of people have died from doing just that.

This is a great hike to do with the family, as its not too strenuous. Also, the lower falls can be seen after only about .1 miles of walking on a paved path, so that part is wheel chair friendly. You have to go an additional 2-3 miles to get to the top. On the way up, there are tons of viewpoints of the waterfall. It's a very long, continuous waterfall, which is why it's one of the longest on the east coast.

Great hike, worth the views.

If you're looking to camp, there is a campground not too far from the hike. There are also tons of other great hikes in the area.

Peaceful Bliss

This campground sits along a river fed by a waterfall just a short hike away. It is the perfect blend of peace and nature as it has a tone of shade making it a perfect summer camp spot. Lots of adventures to take in the surrounding areas and the owners are the nicest people!!! A lot of things are bought on the trust system(pay for what you use for firewood, put store items on a tab until check out). Loved this place

Little slice of mountain paradise

Crabtree falls camp ground is one of my favorite places to go, we go every year and have been for 6 years now. It's quiet, peaceful and reminds me of a simpler time. The owners are amazing people! There are 4 cabins that are awesome and tent sites all right along a gorgeous stretch of the tyro river. You will be lulled to sleep by the river at night. There is a lush tree canopy throughout the summer so we typically don't even need sunscreen. There are numerous local swimming holes around the campground as well as some amazing hikes. Bring your water shoes and get ready for an awesome experience!

easily accessible near a great waterfall!

This camp ground easily accessible. Store, Bathrooms, and running water are very close. Seemed very family friendly. Some of the campsites are super close to a creek and its worth trying to get one of those! these sites are walk in, but there are some drive up sites in other areas. Crabtree falls and the AT-the Priest shelter are very close!.

Cozy little campground tucked away on the Tye river.

This camp ground was nice and cozy. The tent sites we stayed in were 10 ft away from the Tye river, we literally fell asleep to the sound of the water every night. The campground did have facilities that were about a quarter mile walk away from our sites; this is something to consider if you are camping with older folks or children. The vibes were peaceful, no loud or wild campers. Crabtree Falls is a mile up the road and very easy to get to the trail head. The AT is also close by and easily accessed.

Stellar Views

The owner was very helpful and was able to get us a site last minute. The site backed up to a creek that created natural flowing water that we enjoyed wading through. The bath house was well maintained and super clean. We will be returning for sure.

Cared for & convenient

We camped 3 nights at Crabtree Falls for Labor Day 2017. A comfortable, pretty spot for car camping and a GREAT home base for exploring the local breweries and wineries and Staunton - dont miss going into town to enjoy this delightful little historic mountain town and home to the Woodrow Wilson library! The staff were friendly and welcoming - and didnt bat an eyelash at our queer ladies camping weekend. The store has necessities and a chance to visit with the owners, and the bathrooms are the cleanest, most comfortable camp facilities ive ever seen. The sites along the upper loop are close together, but folks keep to themselves so it felt private. I cant wait to snag a cabin or water front tent site on our next visit. Dont miss walkin mg 15 min up the road to the waterfall hike - parking can be crazy up there but you can walk! It rained the whole time we were there, but the on site, free dryer was a life saver - no dog trapped in a wet hoodie!

Nice Getaway

My husband and I recently stayed overnight with our two dogs. The campsites run along a river, which provides great back drop for getting away from the city. Our campsite was at the end of a row, which made it great for taking the dogs on little walks away from the campsite. Nice clean restrooms, and cute little store where you can get items you might have left at home. Staff was very nice. It was a great jumping point to visit the craft breweries in the area & to access the trail at Crabtree Falls. We can't wait to stay again.
