## Overview

 NOTICE: Due to the major damages sustained to the bathrooms during the 2023 floods, and the contractual lead times we are going to stay closed through the 2025 camping season (One caveat; If the construction on the 3 restrooms are completed before next fall; we will try and open for partial season camping).Winhall Brook Camping Area is nestled in the Green Mountains of Vermont along Winhall Brook and the West River, seven miles north of Ball Mountain Lake. The campground has strong appeal to the outdoorsman at heart, offering hiking, biking and fishing opportunities in a beautiful natural setting.
## Recreation

 The Winhall Brook Camping Area rests among the Winhall River, and its confluence with the West River, providing substantial opportunities for fishing and river access. Hiking and biking are popular summer activities during stays within the campground, and the snowy winter months allow opportunities outside the recreation season, including cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. A picnic shelter located on the North Side provides space for larger gatherings during the recreation season.The West River Trail stretches 16 miles along sections of the long-since-abandoned West River Railroad, connecting the villages of South Londonderry, Jamaica and Townshend, each with conveniences for those passing through. Hikers going south along the trail from the Winhall Brook Camping Area will pass notable waterfalls, including Angel Falls just north of Ball Mountain Lake, and Hamilton Falls, south of Ball Mountain Dam.The West River is the main tributary for Ball Mountain Lake, a flood control reservoir with hiking and scenic overlooks available year-round. Lake access is available at Ball Mountain Lake's car-top boat launch, with the shores providing additional opportunities for fishing and swimming during one's stay. Twice a year, controlled releases from Ball Mountain Dam provide ideal whitewater conditions along the West River, attracting rafting and kayaking enthusiasts from all across New England. Releases are typically scheduled for the first weekend in May and the last weekend in September.
## Facilities

 Winhall Brook offers 111 campsites within the North and South camping areas, located on either side of the Winhall River. Available campsites include:74 standard non-electric sites.14 standard non-electric sites with lean-to shelters.23 standard sites with water and 50-amp electric hookups (Sites S6 - S28).During their stay, campers can enjoy various day-use opportunities within the park, such as playgrounds, picnic sites, a basketball court, volleyball court, and hiking trails, including several miles of the scenic West River Trail.Three restroom facilities within the campground provide flush toilets, showers, drinking water, and dish washing stations for all campers. Dump stations are available on either side of the campground.
## Natural Features

 Winhall Brook consists of broad grassy meadows amidst a beautiful northern hardwood forest, providing outstanding fall colors and wildlife habitat. Visitors may catch glimpses of the region's native fauna, which include moose, white-tailed deer, black bear, bald eagles, owls, osprey, woodpeckers and a wide variety of songbirds.

 Angel Falls flows just south of the Winhall Brook Camping Area, accessible via the West River Trail traveling downriver towards Ball Mountain Lake. A custom stone bridge continues the West River Trail across the falls' pool for an up close view during your hike. The Green Mountain National Forest begins just 12 miles west of the Winhall Brook Camping Area, offering multiple opportunities for hiking, backpacking, biking, and scenic views. Head south on Vermont Route 100 towards Rawsonville, before turning west onto Vermont Route 30 towards Manchester, Vermont.

The Best Camping Near South Londonderry, Vermont

We love spending time in this area as there are a lot of beautiful places. This campground is meticulous as it is run by the Army Corps and they have done a great job. The campground is located where Winhall River meets the West River. There is river swimming, hiking and biking on the West River Bike Trail, theater in the summer in Weston and wonderful towns all around. In Weston you can find the original Vermont Country Store and that is quite the excursion. There are some great stretches of river for kayaking nearby if not right at the park. The pace of life is slow there. The restrooms are immaculate and the sites are grassy. Few sites have hookups so bring your solar and pick a sunny site. They do have some walk up sites that can't be reserved ahead. The place books up early in the year for weekend visits so we went on weekdays. There are a few sites with hookups but since we like to be near the river, we opted for other areas.

Wonderful location

It's place is so relaxing and family friendly at the same time. The river is a constant lovely background sound and is wonderful to swim or just play in. Walk into town for the paper or fresh baked goods. And you can actually have a beer in camp. Legally.

Awesome Campground 

The campground is well kept but the spaces are very open and visible and some are mowed lawns. A little odd- might be good for the less outdoorsy types. Bathrooms and showers were available just a short walk away. The brook is beautiful.

Lawn camping 


First time at a US Army Corp of Engineers campground this past week. Great campground nestled between the Winhall river and west river. Super clean facilities and grounds. Spent the week in the river exploring and relaxing. They had just had a series of rainstorms before we arrived so the river was able to be tubed down for a couple days toward the end of the trip we were t able to. Short drive into town to get supplies if need be. plenty of hiking and biking in the area. would definitely come back. 

great time in VT

The grounds were beautiful! nice clean restrooms and showers, a few playgrounds, and nice trails. Only downside for us was bad phone signal and everything seemed far away, like Walmart was an hour away! 

great campground but a bit isolated

Beautiful campground. Lush grass meadows. 2 rivers intersect in the campground. Most sites are on or just off the river. Huge volleyball and sports meadow. Nice pavilion. There is a small group of camp sides with electricity and water but most sites have none. The bathrooms are clean. Where the two rivers intersect is a nice sport to put your feet in the water. Kids enjoy tubing the small rapids. We go for 2 weeks most every summer. 

Our favorite 

We loved the lovely landscaping and clean facilities.  The hiking  in the area was just enoigh for pir short stay.  Next time we hope to return for longer!



Wonderful, pretty and neat

Beautiful scenery.  The brook is clean and a nice place to spend some time.  Downsides:  campsites are really close together so not much privacy.  Dumpsters are a mile from your campsite.  Overall nice place but I probably won’t go back.

Nice Scenery

Nice campground with access to 3 river streams. Bathrooms were clean. Only one shower stall, but hot water. Clean dishwashing station. 

Dumpster is by the entrance which is at top of a hill. Generous firewoods for sale at the entrance too.

Beautifully maintained grounds with some separation/ privacy.  Nice rocky beachesque swimming area on the river on the grounds. Bathrooms ok, 2 bathrooms with one shower each. No grates on the firepit.  No service or wifi
