A truly great State Campground

State Park camping isn't for everyone. If you enjoy nature, want to be able to fish, swim, and hike without leaving the campground;and don't mind being without basic utilities of electric and water on site then this is the campground for you.

Located in middle of Lake Champlain. Grand Isle was one of the most enjoyable campgrounds we've been to. Their in park Naturist, Julia was an absolute delight. She did guided hikes, crafts, and other family friendly activities.

The cleanliness of the facilities was excellent. State Park camping is economical and relaxing. We were pleasantly surprised with all the activities that were offered. Usually it's only the private campgrounds that offer those type of extras.

Wonderful time

It was beautiful on the island, we rode the bike causeway and took the bike ferry. Our site was large and sunny but most sites that we saw are in the shade. Waterfront sites mostly have lean-to or cabin so we were not able to get a site for our pop up on the water. Gravel roads make for some noise but it wasn’t bad at all. Kayaking is wonderful and there was a boat launch right near our site.

Week in Grand Isle State Park

This is one of the most beautiful and peaceful park I have stayed in. The facilities were clean and the shower was nice and hot. The staff are helpful and friendly. Since the park is on a island in Lake Champlain in Vermont there is water all around. Good places to walk and ride.

Very friendly rangers and very clean

We enjoyed ourselves at this campground very much. The sites are spacious although in the area where we stayed the vegetation was pretty sparse between sites. The bathrooms are clean and have showers. We were able to let our dogs swim at the boat ramp which was a definite plus. We also caught some fish from the shore here. The rangers were super friendly and we picked up a new VT State Park hat from them during our visit. We would definitely visit again. There are other parks to visit nearby and the farmers market is a must.

Just Marvelous

Stayed in Balsam leanto. Really shady and the campsites are private enough. They do really enforce those quiet hours. Also the WiFi only really works near the office and is very spotty so I wouldn’t rely on it.

Great Spot for Week or Working and Exploring in Burlington and Grand Isle

Love this state park and it was super quiet during the week. Rained quite a bit, but took advantage of the libraries in North Hero and Worthen on those days.

Also has a boat launch and beach area for swimming or nice sunset views.

Showers are coin-operated, but $0.50 will get you 5 minutes of hot water!

Staff was also super friendly and they sell ice and firewood right on the property!

If only they could stop the rain!

We enjoyed everything about Grand Isle and only wish it hadn't rained. Every. Day!

Oh well, our grassy site (#80) was a fine refuge for three nights in a tent. It was level, free of roots and stones and far enough/close enough to the bathroom.

Bring quarters for the showers (and pay it forward).

Bring your bike - lots of safe, local (flat) roads both on and off the campsite. Make sure you explore all the islands. (There are two nearby breweries.)

There's a so-called beach on Lake Champlain, but you probably wouldn't spend much time there. I like that they have a Dog Beach.

There are lots of signs warning against late-night noise. But the only thing I heard was a couple coyotes (I think).

Super small sites

We arrived to find that the sites we had rented were covered in trees so our solar would not work. The campground host tried to work with us to help us find another site which we thought was super nice. However as we drove around the campground many of the trees were covering the road and scratched our 5th wheel as we drove by. It was early in the season and they weren’t quite ready for visitors. Eventually we decided not to stay. This campground is really for smaller campers.

Private scenic campground

We had a lean-to site that was just far enough from the bathroom that it felt far. I found the site to be well maintained and for the rangers to be kind and help. Great place to visit on the island.

Amazing views of lake Champlain!

We stayed at a leanto, which have the better views of the lake! These sites are the same price, so it is worth it. The campground has a trail to the shore line, which is nice! There are showers and full bathrooms as well.

Great place. We have been coming here for over 20 years. Right on Lake Champlain. The only downside is the beach is rocky, so bring water shoes! Dog friendly, and you have the choice between wooded areas and grassy. Close to great road biking and hiking.

Nice clean campground

Pros:

beautiful private big woodsy leanto site.

Very nice people

clean bathrooms

cons:

Very rocky beach with little to no sand to play in

a bit of a walk to the water

overall we considered coming back because it was a great stay. Very peaceful and laid back but without a beach for the kids to play when it got hot it was enough for us to look elsewhere.

Great campground in the lake

My first night there the staff was able to accomadate my request to stay one night on the lake front and the next day I had to move to another site farther back. The campground felt very safe and everyone was very friendly to me and my dog. They had a playground with lots of children running around too.

Great camping and biking!

Beautifully set on Lake Champlain in Vermont! This is a relatively large campground but is well laid out and doesn't feel small even when it's packed to the gills. We spent a long weekend here to enjoy some mid-summer bike riding along the many bike-paths Vermont has to offer.

The facilities are well maintained and clean. There are several camp hosts on the property and they are attentive to the needs of all the guests coming and going. There is a small welcome kiosk with a few picnic tables behind it where you can get wifi access if needed.

You can bike directly from here all the way to Burlington, without ever getting back in your car! Take the bike ferry across a small section of Lake Champlain and keep on riding.

While we were here there was even a little band playing some music one evening! We actually stayed in an ADA site (it was the only one left). It was REALLY nice. Gravel drive all the way in to a nicely built 3 walled platform with a roof. We were able to set up a tarp just off the edge to cover the picnic table as it rained for part of our stay. The site drained well and was plenty big enough for our tent and needs.

Grand Isle State Park Campground

We spent 4 nights in a "prime" lean-to at this location on the Vermont side of Lake Champlain. This was our second time at this location, but first experience in their lean-tos, and the views, staff and cleanliness of this place did not disappoint. Kayaking, sailing and fishing abound at this sprawling facility. Just a quick ride to Burlington, VT, if the quiet is too much for you. Brush up on your French if you're so inclined; you will meet many of our Canadian neighbors here.
