Fairly good tree coverage in an otherwise treeless wilderness area

Stayed up there for a night. Camps are varied quite considerably, but I picked one that comfortably fit three adult tents, a hammock and canopy with three vehicles parked. Some won’t have this kind of coverage. Need to pay extra for additional vehicles, but otherwise a flat rate. Trees were lovely, a little too close to the road at our camp, but no where close to the kind that you’ll find that are meant for RVs. It’s a lovely site.

Nice suprise

We drove through and decided to keep looking. The next 3 campgrounds were full and it was getting late so we got a spot here. There is a bold creek on the site and clean pit toilets. The tent pads are small( we have a 6 person tent and it hung off the edges), and the area could use a little weed eating, but I think it just opened up for the season so... forgiven. Hosts were super nice and informative. Not to cold at night even though there is a ton of snow a few miles up the road.

First CG on Mirror Lake Hwy with developed and primitive camping!

This is the first campground you come to as you head up Mirror Lake Highway. It is split into two sections with the dispersed camping available on the south side and only requiring the recreation pass. Some of the dispersed sites have fire rings but most do not. However, it is closer to the creek! Getting to the creek isn't as simple as walking to the shoreline, however, as there is quite a large marsh area before you hit the stream proper. I would definitely recommend waders if you want to try and fish from this campground. Camping here only requires a Mirror Lake Hwy recreation pass which is $6 for 3 days and $12 for the week. Inter-agency passes can also be used as your recreation pass.

On the north side of the highway is the developed campground with each site having a picnic table and fire ring. It is across the road from Rock Creek but the advantage here is better amenities and more shade! Cost to stay at the developed side of the campground is $18.

Yellow Pine

Driving up Mirror Lake Hwy there are a lot of campgrounds, but they are often packed full of people. Yellow Pine is a great base camp for a lot of hiking and fishing along the hwy. There is a small stream that meanders along the edge of the campground that creates a relaxing and quiet environment. Most campgrounds are spaced out so that you are not on top of another group. We have stayed there with and without our dogs and have been happy both times.
