Beautiful place to catch a breeze and base camp for all this area has to offer!
The section of the dispersed camping on the old highway road I chose was on a hilltop, so even though there wasn't much shade, the breezes were great and the views were even better. There appears to be another section on the opposite side of the current highway that is down in the valley. I didn't check that out, but saw rigs down there.
The gravel road to the upper section branches off in different directions. If you go right it takes you up a hill and there was one or 2 "sites" here, but be careful because if these sites are full there is no turn around. If you go straight you'll run into an area with at least 10 "sites" (my choice), and if you go left this will take you into a gravel pile area. There can be construction sounds due to the gravel piles being moved by what looks like the UDoT.
The tiny town of Mt. Carmel is nearby. Make sure to stop at the Thunderbird Restaurant - home of the "ho-made" pies. Kanab is another must. Check out the Wild Thyme Cafe. Great salads!
Take SR9 into Zion and you'll go through the mile long Zion/Mt. Carmel tunnel. An experience in itself! (Closed in winter).
Remember, leave no trace and enjoy.
