The Best Camping Near Bridgeport, Texas

I have not stayed here at night but I have gone to enjoy the day with friends who were and I really enjoyed the site on Bridgeport Lake. There is nothing better than a laid back place close to home to enjoy festivities and friends.

With RV and tent sites this place is popular during holidays and weekends. I was there on July 4th and it was like a mobile city moved in so they could have perfect placement to see the fireworks over the lake.

Different sites have different amenities and are priced accordingly. I noticed that RVs had electricity and water some even had sewer dump available. The public restroom and showers were busy so they could be expected to be a little more messy than usual however were not bad. Kids played on playgrounds, boats were launching off the ramp ad everything was lively.

The site my friends were in was a standard RV site with electricity and water. It was large enough for their 5th wheel to comfortably fit and allowed for spacing for recreation as well. It did not feel compact next to neighbors. It included a picnic table which we set up shop for an ultimate bbq and it was large enough for a full buffet.

I looked into prices for my own travels following my visit here and it was very reasonable only $5 for no hook ups like I would want for tent camping. $20 for RVs with connections. And something which I thought was nice as well was the parks attention to needs for those using the facility for day use. They offer rental of their pavilion for events and functions and for those wanting to plan group outings these also include spaces for stay. You can pay in advance through their main office or on the day of your stay.

TIPS:

* If you are walking up come early on busy weekends because a lot of people like this spot for its access to the lake.

* Bring your own firewood and check the burn bans in advance. If you are able to have a campfire at the time of your visit there are not really any resources for starting one in this area and the closest store doesn't usually have wood, this area has had several burn bans however over the years and gets very dry so check in advance before purchasing your wood.

* Bring your fishing pole, shore fishing Is big here and will give you something fun to do solo or with family.

Great for stay or day use

This is a big park with lots of room to roam. There is a large section with primitive camping that has trees scattered throughout for shaded camping spots. There are two RV areas that have water and electric hookups for $20/night One area is by the office and looks spacious and level enough for a couple day stay. The other RV area is a newer addition located near the boat ramp that has plenty of traffic during the day but after dark is pretty much vacant. This area also has water and electric available on the spots for $20/ night and some are set up for 2 or 3 campers to be grouped together.

The restroom facilities are dated with only one shower for each gender. The more primitive area has a set of pit toilets available. All the facilities are kept clean by the camp host as are the entire grounds for that matter. The host does a good job keeping up with this large park.

There is a gravel walking trail that is approx 3 miles long one way and features rest stops at intervals along the way. This trail winds through the woods and up and down the hills of the area and is definitely worth checking out.

If you time your visit right during cool weather you may be the only people in the park for much of your stay and have the park to yourself.

Fall camping at it's best

Such an amazing park. Very secluded and peaceful. Bathrooms are very clean and the water is clear and beautiful.

Only down fall was people trying to take advantage of open areas near the camp spots.

Had a Blast

Texas doesn't have an abundance of lakes compared to other states, but Lake Bridgeport is as good a lake as you'll find in north Texas for boating, swimming, canoeing or setting up camp. 
The area is at the entry point to hill country, providing better views than other locations further east. Many of the campsite locations are elevated and look over the lake. 
There's bathrooms for those who prefer those amenities and a few playgrounds for the little ones. A roped off swim area is also provided. 
For the area, it's definitely one of the best campgrounds you can find! We'll be back when the weather is cooler!

As Good a Lake as You'll Find

This was our first camping trip and Wise County Park did not disappoint!! The lake is so pristine and the camping spots are fairly large and ours was right on the water. We could park right next to our spot and put our boat in with the boat ramp that we could see from our spot. The bathrooms and entire park were so clean. We also had the use of picnic table and fire pit. 

Beautiful and Clean

Wise County Park is a beautiful park with campsites. RV and tent camping in very well kept grounds. Several of the tent camp sites are right by the lake as well as a few of the RV sites. Almost all sites have picnic tables, some have covered pavilions as well. 2 boat ramps are available. The main bathrooms also have showers available. Fire rings and grills at all sites. Make sure to check in at the office before going to your site! Also you can make reservations in advance. Deb and Bill run the park and are very friendly and they do make sure all rules are being followed. If camping in an RV over in the rough tent camping zone, generators must be turned off by 10pm.
