Highly recommended

The facilities for car and RV camping are well-maintained, with picnic tables and shaded spots that enhance the experience. It's an ideal spot to relax, papa's scooperia enjoy a meal, or simply soak in the awe-inspiring scenery. Whether you're an avid camper or just passing through, SH 207 Palo Duro Canyon Overlook is a fantastic place to unwind and appreciate the beauty of Texas's landscapes. Highly recommended!

This spot really surprised me in the best way

This spot really surprised me in the best way. The overlook gives you incredible panoramic views of Palo Duro Canyon— especially during sunset, when the colors light up the entire sky. I car-camped here for a night, and even without water or bathrooms, it felt like the perfect escape from city life. The picnic tables were super handy for dinner, and even though it got windy at night, it was manageable. Stargazing was the highlight— I saw more stars than I’ve ever seen in my life. Just make poor bunny sure to pack your own water, snacks, and warm layers if you're staying overnight. If you’re road-tripping through Texas, this is a stop worth making.

Roadside Park

A roadside park with two shelters. I didn't spend the night, but I didn't see any reason why someone couldn't stay. I wouldn't feel comfortable in a tent, but in an RV, I would be fine.

Parking lot, but fantastic views!

As others have mentioned, not a campground at all. Its a roadside picnic area. 2 covered picnic tables, one grill. Trash cans available but nothing else. Its super quiet and got a great night's sleep with spectacular views in the morning.

Beautiful, but just a highway pull off

Be aware, this is just a highway pull off picnic area. The views are STUNNING but this isn’t exactly a campsite. Luckily, There are no signs that say “no camping”. Paved lot with picnic tables, grills, and trash cans. I don’t feel comfortable staying here for more than a night, as I’m sure during the day it gets a lot of visits from people passing through, but it was a great little spot for one night. Was not bothered by anyone. If you position your car thoughtfully, no one can see you from the road.

Secluded but still a parking lot

This is a beautiful overlook but a pretty long drive with no cell coverage or amenities. Although it may be a good option for people with an RV setup, as a solo female with just an SUV to sleep in, I felt too exposed to stay here.

Private Picnic Area Car-Camp Spot

Loved it here! But the listing on here is misleading; it is actually a picnic/rest overlook area that allows car/RV camping but I’m sure no tents. There are no bathrooms or water but very nice picnic tables, trash cans, a grill, and shaded paved areas. Lots of grass and trees, dogs allowed, and a parking lot. We had one neighbor when we stayed one night and the view can’t be beat. Would definitely come back- a few people come and go and it seems to be a hidden gem.

Great Spot for the Night

What a great find. Small lot, but stunning views of the canyon below and enough room for the low traffic it seems like this sees. Some Verizon signal but only by the fence line.

Beautiful views

We arrived right before sunset and there was only one other camper there. The views were so pretty and it was flat for car camping. There were a few cars that came in the middle of the night and then left, but we were there on the weekend with meteor showers so I assumed it was people stargazing. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because there’s no bathroom, but it was a great spot!

Stunning but Windy

This place has the most amazing views! I was the only one there for the one night. The weather was great, but then the wind picked up big time at night. Maybe it was just that day, though. I had a rooftop tent that was just blowing around and was really loud which made it hard to get any sleep. If you have a small travel trailer, that would be better.

Great view, mostly for boondocking.

I stayed last night and had no problems except for one of the #vanlife dudes emptied his chemical toilet into the parking lot and it ran down the parking lot to where I was setting up my stuff. I plead with him to stop dumping because he was dumping for like 10 minutes. People like him are going to get these places removed.

The sleep was great. I slept most of the night in my hammock connected to the back of my truck. Bring some bug spray the mosquitoes are pretty bad.

Had wonderful stars and a beautiful sunrise.

Clean, easy to access, worth the drive

I got here around 9 pm expecting the place to be full but I was the only one there. No bathroom, two picnic tables. Beautiful sunset coming in from I-40, woke up to a gorgeous sunrise over the canyon. It was very windy, which kept me up. Could hear a couple of cars passing by the road below, only one car came in when I was there around 2:30 am and they left shortly after.

Beautiful View, kind of a parking lot

It’s a fenced area that has a great view and picnic tables. There’s also trash cans. You can probably pitch a tent in the small grass area, otherwise you have to camp in the parking lot in your vehicle.

Easy to find, beautiful view

Stayed at this picnic area without expecting too much, but it was beautiful! It is not a pull off in the side of the road- there was a small hill that led to the area that looked out over the canyon. Amazing views!

There is no bathroom at this location. I had plenty of cell service. I stayed one night, and was the only one there. There are two picnic tables at this location.
