GREAT campground, bad timing
Let me just say, this campsite is beautiful and very well kept. Close (but not too close) proximity to trails & destinations. You have everything you need, and the owners are the sweetest couple ever. You've got gorgeous mountain vistas on the horizon & the Pigeon River roaring right next to you. It's an idyllic little spot.
However, the Pigeon River is controlled-release, and in the off season (the "on" season is may-september), it is unpredictable. Being from New Orleans, I remember asking the hosts for reassurance that flooding wouldn't be a concern. She told us we'd definitely be fine. Later that day, while we were out hiking, the power plant decided to release a TRUCKLOAD of water (locals told us they hadn't seen it this high in 8 years). Our campsite flooded, our sleeping bags & mats got soaked, and at least one pair of shoes is lost forever. Obviously the campsite can not control this, but I'd just say... be extremely wary of the River.
