Camping Puerto Rico

Located in the northeast Caribbean Sea, Puerto Rico is home to a gorgeous mountain range and two large coastal areas to the north and south. This geographic diversity means camping in Puerto Rico can vary from coastal beach camping to tropical terrains.

Camping in Puerto Rico can be a very different experience than camping in the continental U.S., as Puerto Rico is home to the U.S.’s only tropical rainforest. The El Yunque National Forest allows camping year-round. Campers can immerse themselves in the deep vegetation and challenging topography of the rainforest so long as they acquire a permit at least 10 days prior.

In addition to 28,000 acres of lush emerald rainforest and 3000-foot peaks, The El Yunque National Forest is home to over 240 plant species and 50 bird species. Full of natural waterfalls and clear spring waters, visitors are encouraged to spend at least one full day exploring the forest, and can even take a guided tour.

As if the rainforest isn’t a rare enough site, the island is also home to three of the world’s five bioluminescent bays: Mosquito Bay, located on the island of Vieques; Laguna Grande on the island of Fajardo; and La Parguera, also in Fajardo. Go camping in Puerto Rico near the most popular of these bioluminescent bays: Mosquito Bay, which was declared the brightest bio bay recorded in 2008.

Organisms called Dinoflagellates (also known as dinos) are responsible for this spectacular phenomenon. Whenever they are moved or shaken, they produce a burst of blue light. A bioluminescent bay is easiest to see during a new moon phase, so plan your trip accordingly.

Teeming with unique sights and geographic wonders, camping in Puerto Rico is the perfect way to experience a tropical paradise without a passport. With a massive rainforest, gorgeous mountain ranges, and plenty of shoreline, Puerto Rico has your tropical camping adventure covered.

We offer spectacular views, thrilling local adventures, culture, cool nights & memorable experiences all in a safe area.

Our property is surrounded by lush rainforest-like conditions and still under 15 minutes from restaurants, pubs, churches, and supermarkets with an easy drive from San Juan, and under 1.5 hours to most airports.

We are also 30 minutes from larger rivers, caves, historic sites, coffee plantations and under 1 hour from science sites, canyons, waterfalls, and a beach.

Our Property sits on 6.2 acres at the end of a private road in a delightful mountain town with lovely neighbors that enjoy engaging with our guests.

When you stay here the views in all directions make you feel as though your backyard is a huge valley full of either mountain tops, a beautiful lake, rolling hills, lush jungle and/or beautiful green pastures. We built the flow of the campground so that each spot has one of these amazing views and each site has a nice amount of private space.

Most guests rave about the crisp clean air during the day, the clear star-filled skies at night and even more so watching the enchanting mist grow from the valley throughout the night to then slowly disappear over the lake and between the thousand mountain tops and valleys every morning.

Many guests comment about the seclusion, privacy, and safety that our property offers and the beautiful cool nights at this elevation.

We also have a nice stream with a few kiddie pools, 2 small waterfalls and a delightful and natural plunge pool for the adults. The trail to get to this area is beautifully rugged but doable for most hikers I know.

Another thing guests love is that we have local families that cook and deliver authentic Puerto Rican meals directly to your doorstep if requested. They do not offer you a menu, they basically offer you what he/she cooked for their own family that day.

We provide a bonfire area in the middle of the property so that everyone from the guesthouse, cabanas, and tents can socialize at night. We offer free firewood for the bonfire.

We are now a regular camping place. You must bring your own tent.

Great spot, but too many tigers

This was a great spot in a lush jungle, the facilities were clean and me and my monkey enjoyed it very much. The one down side was the tigers however, less would have been better.

      Truly a wonder

On a much needed vacation, we went out for a few day hikes out here and it did not disappoint!!! Amazing rainforest views and hikes that wind through the beautiful landscape that is Puerto Rico. I would 100% advise anyone going to the area to check it out. Bring a good mount of water some snacks and make a full day of it! be careful, trails can get a little slippery after some rain.

      Off the beaten path!

I wish I could have visited before Hurricane Maria!! This place is absolutely beautiful! Some trails were blocked off due to damage from Maria but what we did get to experience was well worth our time! I was lucky and had a local friend that took us to some places that most tourists don’t know about. Although we weren’t allowed to camp we still had an amazing time. From the water falls and beautiful foliage to the Coqui sing for us all day. We saw a lot of guided groups on the trail so I was glad I know a local. The trails are clean and well maintained even in spite of the recent hurricane. I can’t wait to go back!!
