Limited connectivity: Most glamping locations near Smethport have minimal cell coverage. "There is zero cell service/WiFi at the park, or for at least 5-10 miles from it. The sites are clean, flat, and spaced nicely on the northwest end," explains a camper at Sinnemahoning State Park. Visitors should plan accordingly for limited communication options.
Seasonal operation: Many luxury camping options operate only during warmer months. "The pads are all gravel except for the handicapped pad, which is paved. This campground is alcohol free and upon checking on you are asked if you have any alcohol. The sites are fairly spaced apart and many are shaded by large pine trees," reports David B. about Sinnemahoning State Park, which runs mid-April to mid-December.
Weather preparation: The area experiences significant temperature fluctuations. "We drove down from Western NY and were able to choose from 1 of 2 campsites. We lucked out and ended up with a beautiful site in view of the reservoir. Red Bridge was clean and quiet. The hosts were friendly and very informative," shares Nate H. Morning temperatures can be 20-30 degrees cooler than afternoon highs.
Tips for camping with families
Playground access: Several glamping sites offer dedicated play areas for children. At Allegheny River Campground, "Great place very clean with lots to do. Very family friendly and pet friendly too. Staff is great," notes Nick O. The playground facilities provide entertainment options during downtime between outdoor activities.
Educational opportunities: Visit nature centers and interpretive displays. "Adults and Children alike will love the park office/Wildlife Center at Sinnemahoning State Park. Learn about this buildings green construction, geo thermal heat, rain water harvesting system, recycled materials and more! Step inside to view elk bear birds and other wildlife," explains Paula L. These centers offer family-friendly learning experiences.
Swimming options: Several sites provide swimming areas during summer months. "The lake is a great place to spend some time. There is a nice big playground. Spot to grab some ice cream/snack," shares Verity S. about Quaker Area. Designated swimming areas typically operate from Memorial Day through Labor Day, weather permitting.

Site selection considerations: Choose sites based on specific needs and equipment. At High Pines RV Park, "We had a site in the full hookup back in section, they are very nice spacious sites. The park is close to the Allegheny Reservoir and the Kinzua Bridge. Very nice owners were able to get us in even though we didn't have a reservation," shares Ryan P. Corner sites typically offer more space for larger rigs.
Power limitations: Check available amperage before booking. "High Pines is a nice place. Located right on a main road but road noise really isn't a problem. Our site only had 30a power. Most seem to be that way. Looks like some updates are on the way. The price was great. We will go back again but making sure it's not peak summer due to not having 50A," advises Nick O. Summer heat may require higher power needs for air conditioning.
Access road conditions: Some glamping locations near Smethport have challenging approach roads. "It was a 20 minute drive to our site. Our site was perfect wooded, gravel pad, water spigot across the street, bear proof box (a first for us)," reports Bobby C. about Allegany State Park.
