## Overview

 Whispering Falls Campground is an excellent outdoor retreat designed for campers more interested in a remote experience. Guests are greeted with grand, mature cedars and Douglas fir trees as they drive into the campground. Campfires allowed until and unless otherwise posted. Fire bans are common during summer months. Please plan accordingly. The Coffin Mountain Trail Area is located nearby, with splendid trails to explore like the Coffin Lookout and Bugaboo Ridge Trails. Scan and Pay is offered at this campground; you may also pay by cash or check for FCFS campsites. There are no refunds, modifications, cancellations, or other fee changes allowed with Scan and Pay payments. This system is the same as putting cash into a fee tube and cannot be refunded. Please download the Rec.Gov app prior to arriving at the campground as there may be no cellular service or very limited service at the campground.

 Anglers enjoy fishing for rainbow trout on the river. Among the many options for hiking and biking trails, the Mt. Jefferson-Pamelia Lake Trail Area is bound to please all types. Hikers looking for a challenging trail will enjoy the Minto Mountain Trail.
## Natural Features

 Whispering Falls is located along the North Santiam River at an elevation of 2,000 feet. Surrounding vegetation includes hemlock, rhododendron and fern, among the towering conifers. The campground is in the North Santiam Travel Corridor of the Willamette National Forest. The forest covers 1.6 million acres on the western slopes of the Cascade Range.

 Detroit Lake provides plenty of opportunity for water recreation like boating, water skiing and kayaking. The Marion Forks Fish Hatchery down the highway, along Marion and Horn Creeks, is an interesting place to visit. The Best Camping Near Idanha, Oregon

Camp above the Santiam riverbank and enjoy a night of peace and rest listening to the water flow. This site has access to vault toilets, potable water. The sites are large enough for rv or tent sites with vehicle pull through. The sites have enough old forest growth to provide privacy for the family. If you camp near the river you cannot hear the road, even though you are only a skip away. I do not recommend camping in the sites near the road if you have kids/pets with you or if you are a light sleeper. The roads are paved which can be great for family cars or for little ones wanting to ride their bike or scooter around camp. The site that we stopped at would have been great for fishing trout or salmon. Don’t forget your fishing license!

You can reserve this site through Linn County Parks &amp; Rec: 1-877-444-6777 - And like most sites in the Willamette National Forest dogs are allowed as long as they are on leashes and check out time is 1pm.

Camp above the Santiam riverbank 

Whispering Falls is a small campground right off of OR22, near Mt Jefferson. We stopped here for to camp just one night on a hiking road trip between Opal Creek Wilderness and Sisters. 

  

There was a small store down the road for supplies, and a creak nearby for hammocking. Sites were basic with fire pits and picnic tables. Great for one night or even a couple if you're out exploring the area during the day-- otherwise not much to do at the site.

We really enjoyed this campground. The spaces are really big and there the greenery in between the spots makes it feel secluded. Aside from the amazing sound of the rushing river, it was extremely quiet and peaceful. The restrooms were clean and the park hosts were friendly. There is a nice little trail along the river and a few spots to fish. There is a great swimming hole beyond camp spot number 11. For those people with trailers, many spots have large and flat pull-throughs.

Ranger Review: Banner & Oak at Whispering Falls 

This place was great. The sites are private and all you can hear is the river (it’s loud). Sites 1-12 are by the river. Non-reservable spots are all on the river. Spots 5 &amp; 6 have a quieter part of the river so they’re great if you want to play in the water. I stayed at site 7 and it had a nice trail to the river but it was not a safe place to get in though there was a nice beach and lots of logs for my little to climb.

Private, quiet

Right on the north Santiam. A few swimming holes although potentially dangerous current. VERY COLD WATER. Great fishing! 

I lucked out and picked site 003. Worst spot by far. 2 is ok. All the rest of the riverside spots are amazing.

Nice big sites set far apart from each other. Excellent camp host who keeps everything very clean. He even delivered our firewood.

Nice camp sites with compartments for little privacy. No hook-ups. Everything pretty old. Restrooms not really clean and little over the years. But the sites are nice with lot trees. Very friendly and supportive manager Frank
