The Best Camping Near Perrysville, Ohio

This site was one of my favorites as it was right by the creek. The creek was clear and cool.  It was also far enough away that I wouldn't be constantly worried about it. Still something to be mindful of when camping near water. 

  

Crossing the creek the water at this time was ankle high.  No cell phone service for Verizon at this time. 

  

Make sure that you look for the red blazes on the trees at the start of the trail.  I would recommend downloading the various bridle trails (Mohican) on the AllTrails app. The paper map provided at the trail head was missing some information. 

  

The parking lot is well maintained. Just a heads up as we parked in the wrong section make sure you go to the outer section of the parking lot. Act like you are leaving and then look to your left you will see the Park and Pack sign. This is to keep you separate from the horse section and parking lot.  We missed it our first two times to the parking lot. We did park in the wrong section and no one hassled us.  It was odd though coming back to our car and it being the only one in that spot.  The other Park and Pack folks knew where to park. We didn't see it until we were leaving. 

  

This campsite you just briefly leave the main trail to cross the creek to your own private campsite.  We loved loved this site. We felt so spoiled as it isn't the crowed state parking campsite that you often think of when you think of camping. 

  

It has a good mix of space for tents and hammocks. A larger group could easily camp here together without feeling like they were on top of each other.

Mohican Memorial State Forest (Park and Pack Site 2) 

Near the bridal trails you'll find Park and Pack site #4. It's a great spot if your legs are tired after a long day of hiking or if you did too many hills that day. Or if you're a beginner camper, or family that want to try something new, it's easy to walk into and out of.  You'll find campsite #4 near the horse pavilion and a large wood barn where it looks that wood is provided. The trail itself is flat, wide and conditions depend on recent rainfall and horse use. It was mostly dry with some muddy areas to navigate around. You'll need to transport it back to camp somehow by pack or a cart/wheelbarrow... It has creative man made benches from logs/branches, a great view for sunset. 
Per paper maps it looks like it's among the other campsites but actually it's on its own and the opposite side of the multiple bridal trailhead.

After a few years of trying, I finally got into Mohican State Park. Our first visit to the park was early in the camping season, and on a warm and beautiful spring weekend. The atmosphere was amazing in the park. Everyone in the campground seemed to be relaxed and having a great time. The campground itself is very well laid out. It's long and just a few rows deep with trees throughout, so you don't feel over crowded. You're never far from a restroom no matter where you are. They have a very nice campground store and a pool that wasn't open for the season yet when we were there. It's the kind of campground that you never need to leave if you don't want to. They have regular electric and full hookup sites.

Wonderful Camping 

The campsites are not as private as the pictures make it look. There are a LOT of campers and tents; it feels busy and crowded. We did like the paved pull-through site and were close to the river. Electric was good and people were friendly. Bathrooms close to all campsites. Showers not clean and broken; hot water questionable. We liked being close to the hiking trails this morning and it was dog friendly.
