    Icelandic State Park Campground

    Mellow

This is an awesome space with quite a lot to do. There is an amazing museum across the road and many historical buildings on the property. There are hiking trails and a swimming beach. I stayed at site 45 and we had a big open yard in front of us. Didn’t feel packed at all but I could see it getting uncomfortable if totally sold out for a weekend. A lot of the sites aren’t level, so be prepared with some leveling blocks. Bathrooms are great and they are constantly cleaning them.

    Icelandic State Park Campground

    Beautiful space

I didn’t love our campsite, it was small and not very private. I liked the look of the primitive campsites so I think that’s what I would book in the future if I didn’t need any power. The bathrooms and showers were very clean and modern.

    Icelandic State Park Campground

    Wonderful camping

We have stayed here twice and will definitely go back again. Playgrounds is great for the kids, bike/ hiking trails are very nice. Beach is great for those hot summer days, they also have an ice cream shop down by the beach. Bathrooms and showers are very nice and clean. We normally stay in the North Loop and have water and electric sites with dump station very accessible when leaving. They have different kids activities worth the Park Rangers and some theme weekends.

    Fort Daer

    Great stop for basics

Nice quiet little campground. It has full hookups for $25 per night or $10 for tent camping. There is plenty of places to park for van campers. You can pretty much park anywhere. The toilets are very clean. There's a shower in-between the Men's and Women's toilets. Two things to note about the showers: 1) It has an automatic shut-off handle. Push in to start the water. 2) There's an outlet in the shower for hair dryers, charging power stations, etc. There's a kid's playground right at the entrance and a fish cleaning station at the end. There's a boat ramp at the far end. I'm told the fishing is pretty great here. It's also near a golf course. The tent price is reasonable for the accommodations. I will definitely be back.

    Icelandic State Park Campground

Clean Facilities, Great Host, Crowded on Weekends, No Privacy

We stayed at Icelandic State Park Campground and were very impressed by how well-kept the place is. The restrooms and showers were genuinely clean— no bugs, no bad smells, and consistently hot water... unless someone next to you opens a faucet. Pro tip: the family shower room has reliably hot water at all times.

The campground host was excellent— friendly, helpful, and clearly takes pride in the place.

The grounds are large, clean, and well-maintained— freshly mowed and very tidy. That said, there’s almost zero privacy at most sites, so don’t expect any seclusion. We were there on a weekend, and the place was fully booked— it's clearly a popular destination, so reserve ahead.

Note: in addition to the campground fee, you also pay a park entrance fee($7 per vehicle per day, or per entry— not entirely clear).

Our Starlink connection worked perfectly— open skies made for a strong, stable signal.

    Red River State Recreation Area

Perfect for the month of October!

I'm always looking for a campsite late in the afternoon. And this one turned out to be perfect. I pulled into East Grand forks. Got out my phone and started looking, and I said oh, there's a state campground right near here. Here. Right in town in fact. I'm traveling with the dog on this trip so I'm always looking for places that I can run the dog, if possible off leash in the morning. Well, technically you're not supposed to have docs off leash here, there's plenty of space down along the river and trails that go away from the campground where the dog can have a little bit of a free exercise. Because it's October, the place is almost empty. And I got one of the no hookup sites, so it was reasonably priced.

    Michigan City Park Campground

    A great little find

Great little find in a small cute town called Michigan. There are four sites that have electric and several sites for tent camping or dry camping. Right next to a little golf course that we played. Campground was great. Level spots but golf course left a little to be desired. The greens were Astroturf, which were a little hard. Everything was kind of on the honor system as you can see in the golf sign. You can stay there for free, but I thought it was nice to leave a little cash to help with the electric bill.
