Best RV Parks & Resorts near Fort Totten, ND

Several RV parks serve the Fort Totten area with varying amenities and hookup options. Spirit Lake Casino & Resort RV Park operates year-round with full hookup sites including water, sewer, electric, and 50-amp service for larger motorhomes. Jan's RV Park in Leeds provides 16 sites with electric, water, and sewer connections, operating from April through October. Grahams Island State Park Campground offers both electric-only and full hookup RV sites, with some areas providing more privacy than others. "Our site #6 needed leveling blocks but got pretty flat; and there's no shade. The reservation process was seamless."

Full hookup RV sites are concentrated in the established campgrounds rather than dispersed areas. Most parks require advance reservations, particularly during fishing season when Devils Lake attracts numerous visitors. While Spirit Lake Casino provides year-round access for motorhomes, other facilities like Jan's RV Park close seasonally. Dump stations are available at several locations including Grahams Island State Park and Spirit Lake Casino. Pet policies vary by location, though most parks permit pets with standard restrictions. Cell service is generally reliable near developed RV parks. Several campgrounds feature gravel pads rather than concrete, with varying site widths and lengths. Michigan City Park Campground

    Hidden Gem

The residents of Michigan are incredibly welcoming. The Duffers Golf Club next to campground is inexpensive, unique and even has clubs available for free use! The members were having a tournament and invited us to join them after our round for an amazing steak dinner and conversation. We just stopped on our way west and can’t say enough about the hospitality. The campground is clean, has 4 electric spots and was the busiest it has ever been with 9 campers, 2 tents, 2 camper vans, 4 motor homes or buses and our travel trailer. There is a fire pit, horseshoes and a playground around the corner. We will be back our next trip west on Hwy 2.

    Michigan City Parks

Free Electricity & Water! Great spot to rest your eyes off of highway 2

This is a top free campsite in a small town urban setting with free electricity. Yes FREE 30 amp or 15 amp electricity. The city park is adjacent to a small golf club that this park shares the same driveway with(and bathroom facilities). There is no dump station or hook-ups but there is water available at the club house. The grounds are very well maintained with lots of large trees.

    Grahams Island State Park Campground

    Well kept park

Stayed one night, 10/15/22 on a road trip. Not as close to the 2 as I expected but it wasn’t a bad drive, even at dark. It was a 7$ fee to enter, and a separate online transaction for a campsite and they charged a processing fee. But seeing as many campsites are closed in October we were just happy to be there. Very large campsite. Driving around all the campsites had reserved tags hung on them, but online they were available and there were no people in any of the sites? We stayed in the Primitive camp, down to the water and off to the left. The camp was a little confusing to negotiate at night, but after a couple of missed roads we found a spot. Fire pit and picnic table. There seemed to be plenty of trees for wind protection and privacy. There was a fenced in DOG PARK, which was AWESOME! Lots of amenities for the in season camper, we still had access to the vault toilets, and water was available up by the camp store but we only knew that because we waited until the morning and asked the person running the camp store.

    Grahams Island State Park Campground

    A super tidy, private place

Howard campground has giant, shaded, very private spots. We could barely see our neighbors. Our site had pasture land behind all the trees, and the sunsets were amazing.

We loved the dog park and mowed trails. Most of the park was immaculate. From the mowing of the grass to the cleaning of the shower house.

Our only 2 gripes were that 1) there are no dumpsters in Howard campground. You have to drive/walk your trash out to the dump station. And 2) the deep toilets weren’t cleaned. Poop appeared on the floor the second day of our stay. That poop remained for the entire week. Toilet paper was replenished and trashes were dumped, but the poop remained.

    Grahams Island State Park Campground

Nice Campground in Devils Lake Area

This is a nice State campground in the Devils Lake Area. It has wooded and semi private sites in the primitive tent area. One part of the camper trailer area can be fairly wide open. Great place to launch your boat, fish station to clean your catch and nice swim area and playground for the kids. Devils Lake area itself can be somewhat of a boring area unless you love fishing

Guide to Fort Totten

Devils Lake and the Fort Totten area contain several RV camping options within a region characterized by prairie lakes and rolling grasslands. At an elevation of approximately 1,450 feet, the area experiences distinct seasonal changes with warm summers and cold winters. Water levels at Devils Lake fluctuate substantially from year to year, which can affect shoreline camping conditions and boat launch access.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Grahams Island State Park Campground provides excellent fishing access with boat launches and fishing docks. "This park is on an island in the middle of a beautiful huge lake. You just drive out over a bridge, very pretty. If you don't want to camp you can use it just to launch your boat for a day of fishing or use their very easy hiking trails," notes Lynn G. in her review of Grahams Island State Park Campground.

Swimming areas: McVille Dam Campground offers water recreation during summer months. "I stayed one night and explored the area and town. The campground is nice and well maintained. The town is cute," says Teresa T. about McVille Dam Campground.

Hiking trails: Grahams Island features accessible trails for various skill levels. Chuck S. mentions, "We stated at Graham's Island the first part of October. No crowds to speak of. Nice trails friendly staff. Would like to return with the paddle boards when the weather is nicer."

Winter activities: Some parks remain open during winter months, with potential for cross-country skiing and ice fishing. Lynn G. notes about Grahams Island: "In the winter I believe they have cross-country skiing?"

What campers like

Private camping spots: Many campers appreciate the secluded primitive sites at Grahams Island. "We stayed overnight in #67 in the primitive section of the campground. It was completely private surrounded by trees that were full of birds! Primitive area has pit toilets but the shower room and flush toilets were a short walk away," reports Janet K.

Clean facilities: Bowdon RV Park receives positive reviews for maintenance. "Beautiful park at the edge of town. It's busier than expected, there was only one spot with hookups left but it's all we needed. The bathrooms and showers are clean," writes Kim H. about Bowdon RV Park.

Convenient town access: Off Main RV Park provides walkable access to services. "1 block from beautiful Main Street shopping, Ambulance & City Hall. 2 blocks from Laundromat, Theater, Clinic, Cafes, Bars, & Police station," explains Jim L. in his review of Off Main RV Park.

Wildlife viewing: The primitive camping areas often provide better opportunities for bird watching and wildlife spotting. As Janet K. noted about her stay at Grahams Island, the trees surrounding her site were "full of birds."

What you should know

Seasonal closures: Many RV parks in the region operate seasonally. Jan's RV Park in Leeds runs from April through October while some sites like Spirit Lake Casino remain open year-round.

Water access changes: During fall and winter, some services are reduced. Bruce notes about Spirit Lake Casino & Resort RV Park: "After November 1 no water at site."

Reservation importance: Mark & Kelly G. mention about McVille Dam: "We didn't stay because we wanted to get further down the road... Campground host. Dump station... Quite a few sites..." suggesting that while spaces may be available, planning ahead is advisable.

Site levelness: Some campsites require equipment to level RVs properly. Jan's RV Park has mostly level sites according to reviews, with Sheila T. noting: "This was a good site for us as we passed through on a long road trip. The site was level and hookups were well-positioned."

Tips for camping with families

Leah A. notes about Grahams Island State Park: "The event center is really nice with kitchen, bathrooms, outdoor seating, and playground. lots to do at this lake campground. staff was very helpful and accommodating with the event and camping."

Dog-friendly areas: Certain parks have dedicated pet spaces. Leah A. continues: "dog park is nothing more than a little fenced off piece of ground, but gets the job done and allows for off leash time."

Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Jan's RV Park offers full connections. Dawn D. writes: "Nice little park right by the highway. Passport America good for one night. We stopped on our way to the international peace garden."

Site spacing: Campgrounds vary in spacing between sites. "Park is located right off of hwy 2. Great access to International Peace Garden and Geographical Center of North America. The spaces are fairly close and mostly level," reports Mike K. about Jan's RV Park.
