Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Fort Totten, ND

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Grahams Island State Park Campground features spacious, private sites for pet owners across its various accommodation areas. The primitive section provides wooded, secluded spots where pets can enjoy shade while the RV sections offer more open spaces with full hookup options. Leashed pets are welcome throughout the park with clean facilities including showers and bathrooms. The campground maintains a dedicated dog park allowing for off-leash exercise time, though it's described as a simple fenced area rather than an elaborate facility. Sites include fire pits and picnic tables, with the Howard campground offering especially private spots where campers can barely see neighbors through the trees. The park store provides essential supplies for both pets and owners, while the multiple campground loops allow for selecting the right environment based on pet needs.

Access to Devils Lake provides excellent water activities where pets can enjoy shoreline areas. Mowed walking trails throughout the park offer additional exercise opportunities for leashed dogs. The park maintains clean grounds with regular maintenance, though some reviews note trash disposal requires taking garbage to the central dump station rather than having convenient dumpsters in all campground areas. During summer months, the swimming beach and shoreline provide cooling options for pets, while the spacious campsites allow room for pet containment. Primitive camping areas feature pit toilets, but full bathrooms with showers are available within walking distance. For visitors planning longer stays, nearby Devils Lake offers additional pet supplies if needed. Weather can change quickly in the area, so pet owners should monitor conditions, particularly when storms approach, as park staff actively alert campers to weather concerns and provide shelter information.

    Grahams Island State Park Campground

    A super tidy, private place

Howard campground has giant, shaded, very private spots. We could barely see our neighbors. Our site had pasture land behind all the trees, and the sunsets were amazing.

We loved the dog park and mowed trails. Most of the park was immaculate. From the mowing of the grass to the cleaning of the shower house.

Our only 2 gripes were that 1) there are no dumpsters in Howard campground. You have to drive/walk your trash out to the dump station. And 2) the deep toilets weren’t cleaned. Poop appeared on the floor the second day of our stay. That poop remained for the entire week. Toilet paper was replenished and trashes were dumped, but the poop remained.

    Grahams Island State Park Campground

    Well kept park

Stayed one night, 10/15/22 on a road trip. Not as close to the 2 as I expected but it wasn’t a bad drive, even at dark. It was a 7$ fee to enter, and a separate online transaction for a campsite and they charged a processing fee. But seeing as many campsites are closed in October we were just happy to be there. Very large campsite. Driving around all the campsites had reserved tags hung on them, but online they were available and there were no people in any of the sites? We stayed in the Primitive camp, down to the water and off to the left. The camp was a little confusing to negotiate at night, but after a couple of missed roads we found a spot. Fire pit and picnic table. There seemed to be plenty of trees for wind protection and privacy. There was a fenced in DOG PARK, which was AWESOME! Lots of amenities for the in season camper, we still had access to the vault toilets, and water was available up by the camp store but we only knew that because we waited until the morning and asked the person running the camp store.

    Grahams Island State Park Campground

    neat park

wonderful little stay for a wedding weekend at the campground event center. camped in primitive spot and we're pleasantly surprised by the large size of our spot. easy to pick a more private, or communal spot as you prefer. bath houses are kept clean and are rather nice. dog park is nothing more than a little fenced off piece of ground, but gets the job done and allows for off leash time. the event center is really nice with kitchen, bathrooms, outdoor seating, and playground. lots to do at this lake campground. staff was very helpful and accommodating with the event and camping.

there was smoke blown from the wild fires during our visit. made for some interesting sunrises and sunsets.

    Bowdon RV Park

    Excellent town park

Beautiful park at the edge of town. It's busier than expected, there was only one spot with hookups left but it's all we needed. The bathrooms and showers are clean. Local cafe is friendly and has great coffee. Everything is within easy walking distance. No train or busy highway!!

    Good basic site

This was a good site for us as we passed through on a long road trip. The site was level and hookups were well-positioned. The restroom and shower are clean; a good supplement to our camper.

You can get gas across the street and find most anything you need at the attached convenience store. We enjoyed the ice cream and a walk through town.

    Grahams Island State Park Campground

    Fisherman’s Paradise

If you enjoy fishing, this is the place for you. The park is located on Devil’s Lake which is a fisherman’s paradise regardless of time of year. The park office resembles more of a fishing store than it does a park office, and the fish cleaning area was always full with people and their catch from that day. We stayed in a very private site (primitive site 64) right next to the lake. There were plenty of trees for shade and we felt secluded even though the campground was full. There are more open areas which seemed popular with the RV crowd- 3 separate campgrounds full. There is a boat launch as well. The walk to the bathroom was a little far from our site, but the larger bathrooms near the more popular RV areas were clean and had showers.

    Grahams Island State Park Campground

    Nice campground

We stayed overnight in #67 in the primitive section of the campground. It was completely private surrounded by trees that were full of birds! Primitive area has pit toilets but the shower room and flush toilets were a short walk away. There was a store at the entrance selling snacks, wood, etc. Nice stay.
