Campsite at Wallace Meadows Farm / RV site at Wallace Meadows Farm

    Lovely place to camp!

We recently stayed overnight at Wallace Meadows and it was one of the most lovely places we've ever been to! Rich was very friendly and welcoming and the hookup & amenities they offered for a fee were excellent. The bath house was spotless and we each enjoyed a nice hot shower! The property is surrounded by trees and it was very tranquil. There's even a guesthouse which could possibly accommodate fellow travelers who may not have an RV. There's also a laundry room but we didn't use it. They have a background in hospitality and it really shows. Before we left, we purchased some fresh eggs from their farm, beautifully packaged and delicious! We will return to North Carolina. There's so much to see here and we'll definitely return to Wallace Meadows Farm.

Each site has 12x12 concrete pads to restrict tracking sand and/or dirt into RV unit. Daily trash service at sites. Rest rooms well kept, clean with private single shower. Washer and dryer service located at bath house and close to site area for a reasonable price. Wi-Fi service available and ready. Wonderful remote quite area for total relaxation. Tent area behind RV sites but separated from RV location. Area lit at night but not to the extreme to bother camping. Kayaks available to enjoy the small river behind RV& Tent area. Easy access via wooden dock for boarding or unloading kayaks. Owner is extremely accommodating and offers fresh eggs and black angus beef at responsible rates.

    Oyster Point Campground

    Peaceful and remote

Oyster Point Campground is no frills. But vault toilets were well maintained and cleaned.Β

Campsites are large and spread out. Logs were at each campsite when we arrived,Β  great for firewood or for seating around the campfire.Β

Campground sits along a body of water, but no water access from any sites. At the entrance to campground there are hiking trails.

Area is remote. Closest shopping was more than 10 miles away.

    Host was friendly and personable.

Highly recommend and will return again ourselves.

    Oyster Point Campground

    Simple spot near the water

Not a whole lot going on at this site. The trail was washed out without warning. There are toilets available without running water. Bugs were bad but that’s to be expected. Not a bad place, not great either.

    Wilmington KOA

    Nice spot with warm pool

The KOA was kept up to good KOA standards. The pool was big and warm, easy for swimming while maintaining social distancing. One of our favorite parts was that you could walk a short path to a delightful coffee shop with great food and drinks and nice outdoor seating. Our girls also enjoyed the smooth roads for skateboarding. Because of Covid, many of the fun features were closed (playground, Gaga pit, jump pad).

    Camp Ocean Forest

Costly but good ocean front views.

Right next to the pier, walking distance to the water, and amazing views. Many permanent campers. The sites are fairly small and everything is very cramped.Β The bathhouses are not in great condition. You are paying for the location as it is close to everything. Amazing location!

Site surface: Gravel Reservations: Yes Campground Noise: Quiet during our stay.
Road Noise: Secluded. No public roads nearby. Through Traffic in campground: No Electric Hookup: No Sewer Hookup: No Dump Station: No Potable Water Available: Yes. One or two spigots. Generators:Allowed Bathroom: Pit toilet is clean and well stocked. Must be gone for the year Solar: Maybe too forested in some spots. In site # 5 at 9:00 AM we had some solar charge happening Host: Tonia is a delightful host Rig size: Our site would fit a large rig. Sites: I took pictures of the sites on the shore side of the campground. They are the best, but all sites here I would be happy with. Sites #9 and #11 have pathways to a very small private beach. Guide to Swansboro

What to do

Kayak the Newport River: At Oyster Point Campground, visitors can launch kayaks directly from pathways near campsites. "We were able to launch kayaks almost directly from campsite #11," notes a visitor. The campground features convenient water access points along the Newport River for paddling enthusiasts.

Explore Cape Lookout: South Core Banks Beach Camping offers primitive beach camping with unique coastal experiences. "We took bikes and enjoyed cycling around at low tide. Be sure to camp above the high tide zone, which is black sand," reports a camper. The site requires ferry transportation and permits for beach driving.

Fish at multiple locations: Hawkins Creek Campground provides fishing ponds for catch-and-release opportunities. "This is a great place to stay stocked catch and release fishing ponds. Storage units available on sight," mentions one reviewer. Many waterfront sites throughout the region offer similar fishing access.

What campers like

Clean facilities: White Oak Shores Camping & RV Resort maintains exceptionally clean grounds. "The whole place is so very clean: the bathrooms, camping areas, swimming pool area, even the dumpsters area. The grass is very well kept, the roads and signage, well maintained," notes a visitor who appreciates the attention to detail.

Spacious campsite layouts: Oyster Point Campground offers well-spaced sites with natural buffers. According to one camper, "Oyster Point Campground is no frills... Campsites are large and spread out. Logs were at each campsite when we arrived, great for firewood or for seating around the campfire."

Full hookups and a cement pad for picnic table," notes a reviewer. Many sites feature direct water views or short walks to shorelines.

What you should know

Limited services at primitive sites: Oyster Point Campground offers basic amenities only. "Oyster Point Campground is no frills. But vault toilets were well maintained and cleaned... Area is remote. Closest shopping was more than 10 miles away," reports a camper. Visitors should bring necessary supplies.

Insects can be problematic: Coastal locations often have significant bug activity, particularly in warmer months. "The bugs are insane but you'll quickly learn to ignore them - aside from a few bites here and there. We smoked them out and it was fine for the most part," notes an Oyster Point visitor.

Seasonal considerations: Summer heat affects comfort at many sites. "I'd say much better in the early spring or fall," mentions a visitor to Faith W. about camping at Wallace Meadows Farm. Similarly, another camper noted Oyster Point was "Very hot on the site but refreshing shade by the river."

Tips for camping with families

Our girls also enjoyed the smooth roads for skateboarding," shares one family. The campground includes multiple recreational options beyond swimming.

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature dedicated play areas. "The playground was awesome and included a cool wooden pirate ship. The grandkids loved it!" reports a visitor to Wilmington KOA. Families should research specific child-friendly amenities when booking sites.

Tips from RVers

Site spacing varies significantly: Goose Creek Campground receives mixed reviews on site arrangements. "Very nice place, well keep, nice paved streets, nice boat ramps, nice piers, nice laundry room, good cell service," reports one RVer, while another notes sites can feel "crowded" in certain sections.

Connectivity considerations: Cell service and WiFi quality differs between locations. "Verizon service was good" at Oyster Point according to a reviewer, while another mentions at Goose Creek "WiFi available for $$ more, cable πŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘Ž." RVers requiring reliable internet should research connectivity options before arrival.

Long-term stay options: Many campgrounds accommodate extended stays. "We spent 11 months at this campground when we needed to live on the coast. It fit our needs as it was safe and reasonably priced for the amenities included (water, sewage, electric, internet, and cable)," shares a long-term visitor at Hawkins Creek. Monthly rates often provide significant savings over nightly fees.
