Nice trails

Campsite 9 a little small but level. Clean restroom and warm shower with good water pressure. Very nice walking trails. Would have been a fabulous place if beach was open. Verizon service not very good. I could not get Wi-Fi

Grandson’s first camping trip

I’ve been riding my bicycles on the the trails around Flanner’s for years. This was my first camping experience here.
We brought our T@G Boondock XL for my wife and I, and a side tent for my grandson. Decent sized spot for our camper and 10x10 tent, and it included a fire pit (very tall sides) and a picnic table. We spent the first day setting up, preparing food and enjoying the fire. Ended the day in the tent playing guitar and singing, while my grandson played the Djembe. Day 2, was fresh ground Death Wish coffee in the Chemex and breakfast. Then we went for a 3 mile hike. Ate lunch and played ladder ball. Another 2 mile hike in the afternoon, some card games, dinner over the fire and pudgie pies. Played music around the fire until bedtime.
Day 3 was Coffee, breakfast and tear down/pack up. The grounds were clean, saw the hosts throughout the park, and they were very friendly. Showers/bathrooms were good. Water was plenty hot in the shower. It was cold at night and in the morning, and the facilities have screens for ventilation, so it can get quite cold (or hot) in there. The beach is closed indefinitely. The trails are great.
Great first camping experience for our grandson. I will be back. The sign at the gate says NO ALCOHOL. Not sure why this is an issue, but it’s their rule.

Great location to explore the area from

The park was mediocre. We Loved the paved hiking/biking paths and mountain biking trails and visited the Outer Banks while we were here! The sites are dirt, but very level. We were there for 10 days and the host never talked to us or even waved when walking by. The wntrance gate is manual and needs to be opened and closed wach time you leave or enter. The showers are separate units from the bathrooms which is nice but they are in need of repair, the water spigot (sites don't have water) to fill up from constantly leak. The Airbase is nearby and provides consistent noise at all hours. We'd probably look for another campground if in the area again.

Great camp!

This is a really nice spot with easy access to/from Havelock and New Bern. Host is awesome and facilities are super clean. Picnic tables have been updated with fresh planks, fire pits/grates in good repair. Really nice bathhouse with great showers. Beach remains closed due to hurricane damage, just fyi. Many sites have electric hookup available. Great hiking/walking trails!

UPDATE 2024: This campground continues to reign supreme. The host is absolutely phenomenal and the facilities are still awesome. The only issue is the toilets in the tent area of the loop are closed, meaning you have to go all the way up to the main bath house. Otherwise, just a terrific as ever!

Quiet and private

Nice little campground with trees and bushes between each site that make it feel private. Just electric sites, no water or septic. Away from the highway so no traffic noise. The beach is closed due to hurricane damage but the campground was still a nice stay.

Nice quiet park for the first of December

As stated we stayed there the first of December for 7 days and it was quiet.  At one point there might have been 4 other campers there.  We thought the shrubs, plantings, trees, between the camp sites gave a fair amount of privacy.  The sites are a little close together but the plantings help with that.  I don't think you would need leveling blocks for any of the sites, they were flat.  One complaint is that most of the sites are sandy, which tracks everywhere.  There were a few sites that had gravel spread around the site which would have been nice to have.  A few truck loads of gravel would help a lot.  Another complaint is that the bath house wasn't heated.  There was a heater here and there running but the eves of the building were open, just had wire screening.  We picked a site close to the bath house so we could take showers and save water, that wasn't happening.   The recreational area and the beach is still closed.

Nice convenient trails

There are a few nice convenient trails around the Recreation area. The water views are peaceful and beautiful! A fair chunk of the trail is still closed from hurricane Florence damage, as is the beach access. It’s all currently closed now due to COVID-19... hopefully that will change soon!

Small Tidy Riverfront Campground

Flanners Beach is tucked away just off of Hwy 70 outside historic New Bern NC. It’s a small campground overlooking the mighty Neuse River. Most sites are level. Sewer is not offered but of course they have a dump. Water and electric is available and camp fees are very reasonable. There is a sand beach to enjoy and you are within 10 miles of both New Bern and Havelock where Cherry Point Marine Corp base is located.

Open and on the water.

Not much privacy and close to the water. Lots of people come there to picnic who are not camping. Close to a main highway. No trails but lots of open beach.

Great trails & Beach

Take your bicycle or go for a stroll on the plentiful trails throughout this forest. Campsites have grated covers on the fire pits and the sites are fairly wooded. Nice host. Really enjoyed the beach, lizards and paths.

Right on the Neuse river beach

Great spot if you have an RV or don't mind being close to them. Small campsites, but the campground is right next to the beach access. Showers are available here. Dogs are allowed on the beach!
