A little gem with a lot to do

Cabin campers here at letchworth for the past two years. We stumbled on cabin camping at letchworth due to weekends being booked for almost the entire summer for tent spots. the cabins are spacious, with bunk beds, a stove, fridge, and a fire place. i thought they might be close together, yet they were all pretty private, with a fire ring and picnic table. There was a beautiful updated playground, and clean bathrooms. Last summer they had just opened the new nature center with guided hikes, and activities all summer long.

Great for the falls, swimming, hiking, white water rafting, kayaking and so much more!

30+ years of great memories!

We have camped at Letchworth State Park for nearly 30 years. Recent updates to playground equipment and restroom/shower facilities have brought the amenities into the 21st century. The price is reasonable, and the park is a gem. A couple cons to consider: pets only allowed in three loops. Quite often, pet loop reservations are maxed quickly. There is a two dog limit, which excludes many campers. If you are used to private campgrounds, realize that services are limited here. Mediocre camp store and laundry; both get the job done, but leave a lot to be desired.

Nice park

This is a wonderful park to visit whether its for camping or a day trip. Great trails and beautiful waterfalls. We camped in one of the dog loops, it was a nice size site with plenty of shade. We will definitely camp here again.

Camping

Tent sites are nice, either 30 or 50 amp at each sight depending on what you pick. We went 4 days after they opened and raccoons we're a small issue even at a clean campsite. Saw a skunk at our campsite each night as well.

one of the nicest campgrounds we've stayed in

This is a very nice campground. There are plenty of facilities including laundry, a store, rec hall, and awesome playground. The bath house has separate rooms for each shower/bathroom. The loops are paved and made a very nice place for my son to ride his bike. The campsite we had reserved had broken glass in it, but when we called the office, someone came right away to clean it up and also offer us a nicer spot. The only downside is the very early checkout time.

Beautiful Park, crowded though

Stayed 3 nights at the Campground, which is at less crowded Western part of the Park. Tent/trailer sites. Bathrooms with showers. There is a campstore with the basics- food, ice, firewood, but no beer. The Eastern end of the Park (about ten miles from the campground) is the attraction, with the three Falls, and it can get crowded. The trail system is okay, but not challenging as the terrain is mostly flat. If coming from a distance, book a night each at the Campgrounds here and Watkins Glen. Make your reservations in advance.

GREAT scenery, picture opportunities and camping. The sites here are very nice and the roads paved for great bike riding. Friendly staff and a very large pool.

Love this park

When we lived in Rochester we’d take out of town guests either here or to Watkins Glen. The park itself is fantastic. The campgrounds are basic and very nice given the relatively high popularity. The campsites are in two main areas of the park and further broken down into many different loops. The loops near the Lower Falls are our favorites, but any choice is a good one. All are close to the gorge/river and wooded, and connect to trails directly from your campsite. There are also nice cabins to rent scattered around the park.

Ooooh Yea

This is a JEWEL. Book early. Bring your hiking shoes & camera. The gorge is spectacular. Try to get to the balloon fest on Memorial Day - and book a flight if you can. Voted Best State Park in the USA. 'Nuf said.

Gorgeous State Park

We loved our stay at the "Grand Canyon of the East!" This is a gorgeous forested campground with many things to occupy your time! They unfortunately had trail #7 and the upper falls closed for repairs, but we did trail #1 to see the gorge and lower and middle falls. One night we treated ourselves to a dinner at the Glen Iris Inn - food was ok, but we just enjoyed being out on the porch, listening to the falls and drinking some good wine. They have flights of local Finger Lakes wineries too. There are no water hookups. We didn't bother to fill up our tank, just used the shower house and water faucets located throughout each loop. Shower houses were ok - not the best, but worked just fine. We were happy with our decision as the dumping station had 3 stalls and there was a long line backed up to dump early Sunday. The town of Perry was maybe a 5 min drive away and there was a small grocery there with just about everything you would need. We didn't get one, but you can order pizzas there and they cook in about 10 min if you would need a quick dinner. There is no wood for sale at the campground, but there are several farmers with stands on the way in or in Perry the grocery and gas station sold bundles too. We were able to work just fine with our weboost set up, otherwise we had spotty coverage with about 1 bar on AT&T and Verizon and no real ability to create hotspots. We also want to give a huge shoutout to the staff, as we really needed to stay one more day to be able to make it to our next reservation and the entire campground was booked. They were so kind to open up an "administrative site" for us to stay at. Each loop has different types of sites, so tents are mixed in with rigs. 800 was pretty flat, but when we switched to 500 we saw some pretty gnarly leveling setups that made us cringe. Luckily we were able to safely level out at our site.

Site829 (50 amp, shaded, relatively flat) and 531 (30 amp, admin spot, partial shade, relatively flat)

Grand Canyon #32

^^ We always joke that that every state seems to boast their own version of the Grand Canyon. Well, NY has two: Ausable Chasm and Letchworth.

In short, it's gorgeous. Well worth a trip, especially now before they tear down the railroad bridge. Lots of trails down by the campsites, and the major trail along the gorge for views of all three falls. It's very easy to gain access down into the gorge to get to the base of Upper Falls. Just don't be an idiot and actually go in the water, it's not called the Mighty Genesee for nothing.

Glad we checked it out

I hadn't Ever heard of this place until we were planning a little getaway. We knew the finger lakes were high on our list but we wanted to venture a little farther. Letchworth has some awesome hikes, waterfalls and breathtaking views! The campsite was nice- perfect for families with kids who want to enjoy the amenities- but also for young couples looking for a place to rest their heads. The showers were nice and hot!

Fantastic Day spot

Bring the charcoal and bbq lunch, both picnic tables and grills avalible. Great hikes in this area as well as a nice swimming hole. The views are fantastic, sometimes crowded but worth it for sure. All the facilities are well maintained and the staff are very knowledgable!

Good weekend campsite

Not technically in the Finger Lakes but still one of the most beautiful parts of Western New York State. Splurge and eat at the Glen Iris Inn! Great for cycling and hiking but no swimming. I love taking visitors here in all seasons but in autumn it is exceptional. I’ve stayed in a few tent sites and all are wooded and pretty private with your standard basic amenities. This is a popular park so make reservations.
