    Sears Bellows County Park

    Relaxing-Good for your whole family!

Sears Bellows in New York is a lot of fun. It really does offer a lot of outdoor activities for you and your family. I have stayed at this campsite 1 time, and stayed 2 nights. This campground does offer tent sites as well as RV/trailer sites. When I went with my friends in college, we just stayed in the tent sites and really enjoyed it. The campground is very well kept and clean which I really liked. They do have quite a bit of garbage's to dump your trash in. One thing I really liked about this campground is that there was a river/pond close by (Bellows Pond). The first night I stayed here my friends and I rented some rowboats and went on the water. It was a lot of fun, and the price of the rowboat was pretty cheap. The next morning we got up and did some hiking. The trails were beautiful, and the flowers were in bloom. There were people who were also biking on these trails, which looked like so much fun! We also saw some people fishing in the pond- and it seemed like most people were catching. The people who stayed in the campsite next to us were cooking up some type of fish for their dinner that they caught that day. One thing to note is that there are not any electrical hook-ups, so if that is something you need you might now want to come stay here. I would love to come back here someday, but stay maybe a day or two longer to do more things- I would also bring my bike and fishing pole to do more outdoor activities. I would also advise to rent the rowboats because that was a lot of fun!

What to do

Water activities at Bellows Pond: Sears Bellows County Park offers rowboat rentals for exploring the pond. "The first night I stayed here my friends and I rented some rowboats and went on the water. It was a lot of fun, and the price of the rowboat was pretty cheap," reports one visitor at Sears Bellows County Park.

Ocean and bay fishing: Both saltwater environments provide different fishing experiences. At Shinnecock East County Park, campers enjoy productive fishing spots. "The ocean is beautiful and we catch stripe bass. The bay is peaceful and we go crabbing," shares Anthony M., highlighting the dual water access that makes this location unique for anglers.

Trail activities: While not specifically designed for horses, the area offers trails suitable for hiking and biking. "The trails were beautiful, and the flowers were in bloom. There were people who were also biking on these trails, which looked like so much fun!" notes a Sears Bellows visitor. For equestrians seeking bridle trails, contact Suffolk County Parks directly about seasonal riding permits and restrictions.

What campers like

Beach access camping: The shoreline camping experience stands out as exceptional for RV campers. "Camping directly on the beach at one of the nicest beaches in the world. You cannot find another place like this!!" enthuses Kayla G. about Shinnecock East County Park, though equestrians should note this park doesn't provide horse facilities.

Quiet woodland setting: The forested campsites provide a peaceful retreat. "This hidden gem is located right in Hampton Bays and is the perfect campground for anyone looking to camp off the grid. Tucked away in the woods is a beatiful well kept & maintained campground with spacious sites," explains a camper about Sears Bellows County Park.

Family-friendly playgrounds: The recreational facilities appeal to families with children. "The playground is really nice and big has a lot of slides," mentions Gino D. about Sears Bellows, adding that "the trails are nice and big" for those traveling with dogs, though specific horse-friendly trails aren't mentioned.

What you should know

Off-grid experience: Most campgrounds in the area lack electrical hookups. "The only down fall no electricity," notes Vivian T. about Sears Bellows County Park. Another camper adds, "This campground does not have an electric hook up but generators are allowed!" Equestrians requiring power for horse-related equipment should plan accordingly.

Vehicle requirements: Beach camping demands appropriate vehicles. "4x4 a must, air down a must. Beautiful on the bay or ocean side. They also have a hill top section," explains Lisa M. about Shinnecock East County Park, critical information for anyone hauling horse trailers to the limited equestrian camping options in the region.

Seasonal considerations: Suffolk County Parks operate with different regulations and availability throughout the year. Equestrian access to trails may be restricted during peak summer seasons, so call ahead to confirm current horse-friendly options near Tuckahoe.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Children appreciate the recreational facilities at certain campgrounds. "The playground is really nice and big has a lot of slides. The bathrooms are in one area and the showers are in another area," notes Gino D. about Sears Bellows County Park. Families with both children and horses will need to consider these amenities alongside equestrian needs.

Multiple day stays: Allow sufficient time to experience all activities. "I would love to come back here someday, but stay maybe a day or two longer to do more things- I would also bring my bike and fishing pole to do more outdoor activities," suggests Nadia V., indicating that even without dedicated horse facilities, the recreational options warrant extended stays.

Bathroom facilities: Family campers should note the bathroom layout. "The bathrooms are in one area and the showers are in another area," explains a visitor, important information for families planning their campsite selection, especially those needing to check on horses throughout their stay.

Tips from RVers

Water hookups available: While electricity may be limited, water access is provided. "Each camp site spot has a provided water hook up," notes a camper at Sears Bellows County Park, essential information for RVers who might also be traveling with horses and need water for both camping and animal care.

RV restrictions: Be aware of camping style limitations at beachside locations. "Dry camping in an RV no tents," mentions Lisa M. about Shinnecock East County Park, an important consideration for mixed camping parties with both RVs and tent campers accompanying horses.

Proximity to supplies: Despite the natural setting, urban conveniences remain accessible. A Sears Bellows camper notes it's "close to stores & great restaurants," allowing equestrians to easily resupply during extended stays with their horses.
