Meadowbrook campground is the best bargain in town for those visiting the Lake Placid Olympic Training venues and the Village of Lake Placid. Located only 4 miles from the center of town, campers have no shortage of activities available to them. The nearby villages offer a variety of restaurants, gift stores, shopping, golf courses, boating, fishing, and various other activities. Having BBQ and Ice cream within walking distance isnt too shabby either!

ADK ACCESS

This is a very basic campground situated in a small village in the Adirondacks – situated between Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. Every site has a picnic table and an open fire grill and most of the sites on the outer ring have a lot of privacy as they are lined with trees and shrubs. Lots of spaces for larger RV’s, but we saw mostly tent campers.

Bathrooms are mostly clean and the showers are nice. There is a quality dishwashing sink by the bathrooms. Overall, the campground is ok, but needs a bit of a facelift, repainting, etc. Also, you can hear the sounds of the city (cars, leaf blowers, and other things that remind you that you are not truly in the woods).

The best part about this campground is that it is conveniently located between two awesome places and is relatively inexpensive, so if you don’t plan to spend much time in the campground itself, it’s perfect.

We used this campground as a basecamp to mountain bike on an awesome trail just outside of Saranac Lake, the [Bloomingdale Bog trail.](https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-york/the-bloomingdale-bog-trail) The following day, we did a quadrathlon that involved kayaking the length of [Lake Placid](http://www.lakeplacid.com/), hiking to the summit of [Whiteface Mountain](https://www.whiteface.com/), kayaking back, and then finished the day at [Lake Placid Pub and Brewery](https://www.ubuale.com/pub) for dinner. Highly recommended, but plan on a 9-10 hour day on the lake/trail!

With its central location, this campground is close to everything you may need, most even within walking distance.

Conveniently Located, but a bit Noisy

This was the first campground I ever stayed at. I’d had a bad car accident and was determined to hike Mt Phelps. The campground had plenty of privacy and was clean. Nothing too crazy but close to the good hiking spots.

Nice camping spot with showers and toilets that are fairly clean.  Employees are nice and also a trail for Scarface starting at the camp.  Also some surprising visitors:)

Stayed here in our RV while visiting Lake Placid- awesome camping if you’re into hiking. The bathrooms were clean and staff very friendly. 

Perfect spot in Adirondacks 

Nice state campground. The amenities list is incorrect. There are no hookups, electric or water. There is wood for sale when the office is open, a dump station and it has showers. The showers were free however we froze. The bath house was unheated and the showers were lukewarm at best. 

Nice place but the amenities list needs revised

This campground is just south of Lake Placid. Located near a main road, street noise is a problem, but it’s hard to beat the low cost proximity to Lake Placid and Saranac Lake if you want to explore the towns. The sites in the center of the loop are more open; if I had a larger rig, I’d stick to that area. Some areas get a little tight and the website doesn’t provide vehicle length information. I tried to take pictures of as many of the sites as possible. It needs an overhaul…the bathrooms were on the grungy and worn side. 

  

There’s a trail to Scarface that leaves from the campground. Like many of the towns in the area, Saranac has a hiking challenge. Complete 6 hikes in the area and earn a patch; Scarface is one of the 6. The first part of the trail also takes you to a river for fishing. In addition to the Olympic sites in and around Lake Placid and Whiteface, I found some geocaches and discovered the John Brown Farm State Historic Site, which was open for exploration. It was interesting to learn a little more about the man behind the raid on Harper’s Ferry. 

  

Hikes abound. There are numerous boating opportunities in the area. Next door is a barbecue place that seemed to be busy. 

  

I’d probably limit myself to a day or two here and then head to some of the other campgrounds in the area that offer more direct access to the water or trails, but as I said, it’s a nice base for Lake Placid and Saranac Lake, just understand the trade-offs and you won't be disappointed.

Nice location, could use some refreshment

We stayed at Meadowbrook over Memorial Day weekend in 2024. It's an average campground, but has a really good location between Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. 

  

Our site had the standard DEC picnic table and fire pit. There are showers (the hot water was broken the day we were there, but the attendant said we could go to nearby campgrounds to use theirs), toilets, and water spigots. I had decent Verizon signal. 

  

The sites were clean, but the fire pit was showing its age. We stayed in site 37, which was a bit more private and surrounded by trees. The sites in the two loops closest to Rte 86 (#1-13, 27-34, and 51-62) were much closer together, and some didn't have trees between sites. Even at our more "isolated" site, we could still see our neighbors. 

  

The bathroom was actually one of the nicest I've seen in a DEC campsite; it looked like it had recently been rebuilt. 

  

There are positives and negatives about the location. On the plus side, there's ice cream and places to eat within walking distance. We also forgot lunch for our hike the next day and were able to walk to a convenience store to grab supplies. And if you're doing things in Lake Placid and Saranac, the location is tough to beat. On the minus side, there's a bit of road noise and some of the campsites looked like they had great views of a parking lot.
