    Antelope Creek

Great campground that is still in its early stages

Found this place on accident with Google. It's a way off from city life. At one point we were in the middle of nowhere and still had an hour to go. The views on the way are amazing though. The site has RV, tent and cabin rentals available and are in great shape. Bath houses are new with flushing toilets, full showers and a large basin sink for washing cooking supplies. They have a 2 mile loop that allows you to see some amazing views. Worth doing.... Would definitely take the detour to stay here again.

    Antelope Creek

    Great stay, wonderful welcoming hosts

We just returned from a very pleasant two night stay. The camp is clean and well maintained. The community bathrooms/showers are cleaned daily. One recommendation would be to bring your own drinking water as the camp water has a high and noticeable mineral content. That said, the sun rises and sun sets were worth the trip and any hardship from having to use my own water for drinking and cooking.

Only downside is the camp is literally in a prairie dog town so my bird dogs were constantly on high alert living among the natives. A small price to pay for a well run camp with hosts that clearly care.

    Crooked Creek

    Bare necessities

Don't go for the ambiance but if you're going for the fishing then you're in the right place.

Guide to Zortman

Cabins near Zortman, Montana provide access to Montana's Little Rocky Mountains, which reach elevations of 5,720 feet at Antoine Butte. The area experiences hot, dry summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F and cold winters with significant snowfall. Most cabin rentals in the region operate seasonally from May through October, with limited availability during winter months.

What to do

Mountain exploration: Visitors staying at cabin accommodations near the Little Rockies can access numerous multi-use trails. According to a visitor at Buckhorn Store, Cabins & RV Park, "The mountain area provides miles of multi-use trails for hiking, biking, atv & horse back." These trails range from beginner to advanced difficulty levels.

Wildlife viewing: The prairie landscape surrounding many cabin sites offers unique wildlife observation opportunities. One guest at Antelope Creek mentioned the camp is "literally in a prairie dog town," noting this created an interesting situation where their "bird dogs were constantly on high alert living among the natives." Prairie dog colonies are visible from many cabin porches.

Fishing trips: Fort Peck Reservoir provides excellent fishing opportunities for cabin guests. A camper at Crooked Creek advised that while the facilities offer "bare necessities," the location is ideal "if you're going for the fishing." Anglers typically target walleye, northern pike, and smallmouth bass.

What campers like

Scenic loop trails: Cabin guests appreciate the walking paths available from some properties. A visitor to Antelope Creek noted, "They have a 2 mile loop that allows you to see some amazing views. Worth doing." This trail requires no special equipment and takes approximately 1-2 hours to complete.

Clean facilities: Modern bath houses at rental cabins receive positive reviews from guests. According to one Antelope Creek visitor, "Bath houses are new with flushing toilets, full showers and a large basin sink for washing cooking supplies." Another mentioned, "The community bathrooms/showers are cleaned daily."

Remote location: The isolation of cabin rentals in this region appeals to those seeking quiet surroundings. One guest described the journey to their cabin: "It's a way off from city life. At one point we were in the middle of nowhere and still had an hour to go. The views on the way are amazing though."

What you should know

Water quality considerations: Mineral content in water supplies affects some cabin locations. A visitor to Antelope Creek recommended "bring your own drinking water as the camp water has a high and noticeable mineral content." This applies particularly during summer months when mineral concentration can increase.

Historical context: The Zortman area features significant mining and frontier history. A visitor to Buckhorn described it as a "friendly little town with rich history of gold, outlaws, fables and lore." Several cabin rental properties provide information about local historical sites and abandoned mining operations.

Limited services: Cabin rentals near Zortman operate in remote settings with minimal nearby amenities. Visitors should plan accordingly for supplies, as the closest major grocery stores are over 60 miles away in Malta or Lewistown. The Buckhorn Store provides basic groceries and fuel for cabin guests.

Tips for camping with families

Bring entertainment: Limited cellular service and internet connectivity characterize most cabin rentals in the area. Families should pack board games, books, and outdoor activity equipment for children. Evening temperatures can drop significantly even in summer, so indoor entertainment options are recommended.

Sunset viewing opportunities: Evening light displays provide natural entertainment for family groups. A visitor at Antelope Creek mentioned "the sun rises and sun sets were worth the trip and any hardship from having to use my own water for drinking and cooking." Optimal viewing times vary seasonally.

Weather preparation: Temperature fluctuations require adaptable clothing options for family cabin stays. Daytime summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F while evenings can drop below 50°F. Spring and fall visits often experience rain, with sudden thunderstorms common in late summer afternoons.

Tips from RVers

Limited hookup availability: Cabin guests should check utility details when booking. At Buckhorn Store, cabins include "electric hookups, drinking water" and other amenities not always found at more remote properties. Guests requiring continuous electricity should confirm power supply options before booking.

Road conditions: Access roads to some cabin properties require cautious driving. Many approach roads are unpaved and can become difficult to navigate after rainfall. High-clearance vehicles are recommended for accessing certain cabin properties, particularly during spring months.

Supply planning: Cabin guests should prepare comprehensive supply lists. One Antelope Creek visitor advised bringing drinking water due to mineral content issues, representing just one of many supply considerations for remote cabin stays. Guests should also check cabin inventories for kitchen equipment, linens, and other essentials.
