Gorgeous river spot

We spent one Saturday night here and fell in love with this spot! The Clark Fork through this area is beautiful and our camp site was right next to a semi protected bay that was perfect for our young kids to wade in. It was super quiet. Limited spots and some remained open, even though it was the high season. We did have to eat inside because the yellow jackets were super aggressive when food came out, but otherwise a great campground!

Relaxing

Went for the night on 4th of July weekend. The camp hosts were friendly, spots clean and nice size, and it was extremely quiet. The swimming area was nice too

Nice campground along Clark Fork

First take - it's a nice campground. Sites are far apart. There's a vault toilet, potable water, no RV sanitation dump. Quite scenic, friendly camp hosts who said this is 1st year out of 4 that mosquitos are bad. River is beautiful. There is noise from occasional trains (very close) and highway (across the river), but I didn't find it disturbing - some might.

Unplugged next to a crystal clear river

The campground is outside of town nestled in tall pines, next to a crystal clear mountain river. When we stayed, wildfires were burning due East from the town. The smoke didn't impact respiratory system much thanks to the blowing winds. Yes, there are trains close by, but earplugs and/or white noise app made UT a non issue for us. It was great to unplug, even though we did have some at&t service. Sunrise/sunset by the river is really peaceful. There is a day use area and a boat launch. A clean park. Decent space between sites. We are a 30' class A with a tow and we fit just fine. We used our on board facilities so I cannot speak to the pit toilets. Hosts were very nice. Pro note: if you play golf, you MUST go to the golf course just down the road. It is fantastic. Oh, and there is a new brewery that just opened in town. Check them out. Really nice folks.

Quiet

Thompson SP, Montana

Very quiet, remote and sandy. Did an overnight here after a KOA so you can imagine the differences! There is a “garage” set up as the park office. When I asked the host where the main visitor center was she looked at me like I was crazy. She said “ This is the park office, it’s a State Park!” So I didn’t ask anything else. The sites are fairly close together but spread along the sides of the road loops and there are no other campsites around you. The dogs located a mouthy squirrel so they were entertained and there were wild growing huckleberries (a popular thing round these parts) throughout the campground. No electric, community water sites throughout , pit toilets and the hosts had firewood for sale. The river was a short walk through the trees from our site . Beautiful clear water, sand and rocks. Good place to unplug for weekend.

Nice spot with easy river access

Good spot conveniently located close to the highway but wooded enough to feel more remote. There was a short trail from our campsite that led down to the river with a little sandy beach. We swam and fished from this lovely spot during the day and star gazed at night. Train tracks run along the campground although you couldn’t see them from our spot. Only a few trains went by during our stay so it didn’t bother us much but the noise might be annoying to some. We only stayed one night so I can’t comment on what the surroundings have to offer. Overall a nice spot that I would definitely recommend during a summer road trip!

Do You Like Spash Back?

After a week in MT, we were looking forward to getting to a more established campground but this wasn't it. This campground is pricey at $33 a night, smaller, and just did not have any amenities that you would think comes with such an expensive campground.

First, it is located DIRECTLY next to a train track that is BUSY. We had no less than 6 trains run by the night we were staying and it was incredibly loud. If that didn't bother you the highway noise wouldn't either...

The campground is located next to a river that you can swim in and if you need to rinse off, this is your only option. Otherwise, it isn't very wooded and the high dry grasses located in the park make it a fire risk. It didn't look like there were any burns recently but it was a consideration on whether we made a fire or not.

Also, there isn't plumbed bathrooms at this park and the pit toilets were clean but full. VERY FULL.

Overall, you can skip the park and the price and move on down the road.

Stopped off the road, Fell in Love

I stopped here on a total whim. The weather was perfect and the park seemed magical. The whole park was scenic and the river was amazing (as you will see in my pictures). Montana is special in every way.
