Beautiful and clean, great hosts!
We were fortunate enough to find this place, thanks to the Forest Service branch in West Yellowstone. Pros: Beautiful campgrounds the area is truly amazingly stunning. Very quiet almost felt like bookdocking. The silt toilets were the cleanest we have ever seen. Host Gene is a hardworking guy as well as his wife who were so helpful that we decided to extend our stay by two more nights Yellowstone is close enough when considering the vastness of the area. The west entry point is a 30 minute drive. ( helpful hint) we got up early (4am) and drive to the hot spots in Yellowstone to beat the crowds, find a parking spot, cook breakfast and then hit the trails before they are packed by noon we are on the way out when literally hundreds of vehicles are bumper to bumper stuck in miles long congestion. We then have the rest of the day to relax or explore other less crowded areas. The Earthquake information center is a 5 minute drive towards Virginia City, definitely a must do(they close mid September) but there are plenty of interpretive signs to guide you. If you go when they are open they have a short 20 minute film and I interesting information on the August 17th 1959 quake that devastated the area. Take the guided hike to the refuge point, Ranger Joe is great! The Cabin creek hike is one of the best most scenic hikes I’ve ever done, it’s only a few miles down the road goi g to West Yellowstone. Fishing is a way of life here, the Madison river flows through the mountains here from lake Hebgen to Quake lake. Fly fishing only! We have the senior access pass campsite was $13 per night, normally $26. There are 3 loops and 70 sites, we stayed in A-9 for 5 days. I would return to this campground without hesitation.
