Boomtown Shelter — Fort Peck Project

Accessible via drive-in access with rough road conditions, Boomtown Shelter operates under US Army Corps of Engineers management within the Fort Peck Project area. The campground accommodates RVs up to 40 feet with electric and water hookups available at sites. Reservations can be made for the $150 nightly rate.

The terrain combines forested sections with open areas near creek, river, and lake access points. Pets are welcome throughout the campground, and campfires are permitted at sites. Fishing opportunities are available in the nearby waters. Fort Peck Campground sits just southeast for campers wanting a different Fort Peck Project experience.

Fee Info

Shelter house is available to rent on www.recreation.gov for $50.00 until a new shelter can be built.

For the summer of 2026, Montana Dept of Transportation will be conducting major road repairs on MT-24 from Glasgow to Fort Peck and from Fort Peck to MT-200. Please consider an alternate route when traveling to Fort Peck. (HWY 2, HWY 117)

Road construction on MT 24 South Flowing Wells and MT 200 east to Jordan and west to Brockway for resurfacing this summer. Please plan accordingly.

The hardened shelter was destroyed by a storm in the fall of 2024. The area can be reserved at a reduced price. Once the shelter is rebuilt, fees will be adjusted accordingly.There is no electricity available at this time. Shelter is anticipated to be on-site for the summer 2026.

Directions

From Glasgow: head south on MT-42 S/State Hwy 24 W and continue onto MT 24 S for 15 miles. Turn right into the Boomtown recreation area. (just before Hwy 117 turnoff). Shelter area is the first right. From Nashua: Take MT-117 S to Hwy 24. Turn right for .1 miles. Boomtown Recreation area is on the left approximately .1 mile. Shelter area is the first right. From MT-200: Take MT-24 N for 59.6 miles. Turn right into Boomtown Recreation area. Shelter area is the first right.
