The park has two Youth Group Camping sites that are strictly for official youth groups only. The youth group camping sites are open from the beginning of April through the beginning of November. This park is extremely crowded and very dirty during the summer season.  

Don't go in the summer. 

Sandy points Maine features are their bay side beach line, and boat rentals and fishing/crabbing. Not a ton of options beyond that, and get extremely crowded during peak season.

Extremely over crowded in the summer. The park closes daily very early as it hits capacity. The best times to go are winter, spring, and fall. Lights on the Bay is a great Christmas light drive thru that's over a mile long. Great host for the polar bear plunge.

Best in the off-season 

My family and I have been coming to Sandy Point my entire life. It is a great little spot on the Chesapeake river. Our favorite thing to do is to fossil hunt for sharks teeth. In the summer it can get pretty crowded, so we prefer to visit in late spring while school is still in session. August is the worst month to visit if you like the water. Jellyfish take over with a vengeance! 

Great day trip 

This campground is very well taken care of, and seemed safe to me. There are wonderful views of the water and swimming at the beach,  pavilions for social gatherings, 
showers and bathrooms that are kept pretty very clean, and room for backpacking, hiking, picnicking, but youth group camping only. 

Beaches, clean, safe

I don't know if there is a campground there, but it is packed full of people in the summer. The water is warm though, but the sand is brown and rough. It generally looks dirty. Trash cans are full by noon since there are so many people eating, BBQ'ing, etc. Too crowded for my preference.

Overcrowded

This is a hugely popular waterfront park on the Chesapeake Bay.   Great for work picnics, family reunions and family fun.  Check in advance to rent a pavilion.    There is no camping.   There are two main beaches and there are picnic tables all over the park.   There’s a popular boat launch amd small marina/bait store.  
Get there early on weekends and holidays.  The line to get in can be a mile long!
