East Branch Pleasant River in KI Jo Mary Multi-use Forest is located near the East Branch of the Pleasant River in Maine. The terrain consists of forested areas with rivers and streams. Temperatures range from lows in the 20s Fahrenheit in winter to highs in the 70s during summer. Nearby attractions include Baxter State Park and Gulf Hagas, offering hiking and nature exploration opportunities.

Camping is allowed only in the more than 60 authorized campsites. The checkpoint receptionists will gladly assist you in choosing a location when you register. Fees will vary according to the number in your party and the length of your stay. A fire place, picnic table, and privy are located at each campsite. The sites are primitive and well spread out. You will find solitude, good fishing, good hunting, fresh air, clean water, good times, and many other outdoor activities if this is what appeals to you. There is no running water or electricity. Campsites are maintained weekly. We ask that you carry out the refuse you carry in. Occasionally a campsite may be discontinued. Such closure allows the natural environment to recover from the impacts of frequent and concentrated activity. No party will be allowed to camp more than two weeks in one location. No trailer, tent, or other equipment is to be stored on any campsite. Items left unattended for more than three consecutive days may be removed at the expense of the owner. If primitive camping is not appealing to you, you may stay at one of the sporting camps in the KI Jo-Mary Multiple Use Forest. Campsite reservations are not required, but recommended for Friday and Saturday nights. Requests should be made at least one month in advance.

The Best Camping Near Brownville Junction, Maine

There are a few sites in the East Branch Pleasant River camping area within the Ki Jo Mary multi-use forest. After passing Little Jo Mary and before you reach Gauntlet falls, there’s a fork in the road and a few of these sites down each branch. EB1 is parallel to the road, large enough to handle a truck camper or small trailer easily as well as multiple tents. EB2 is tucked away off the road providing a little more privacy and shade. Sites have a vault toilet available. EBP4 has a small shelter. They are between the Little Jo Mary Pond campsites and Gauntlet Falls, with a river running behind them. Site are relatively level Fire pit and picnic table provided. Bring your own water or plan to treat it.

  

This is accessible from the Jo Mary checkpoint. Fees are higher for out of state campers. Firewood available at the checkpoind. Midweek in August only one of these sites was occupied. Plan to arrive before 9pm to avoid having to pay a higher fee for access. Look out for the logging trucks! They move fast and have the right of way. The main roads seemed to be maintained pretty well. A grader was out and about when I was there.  

  

Gauntlet falls has a nice swimming hole and there are several ponds nearby for car-top boats and fishing.
