    Overview

Adams Ranger Station Cabin is located in the heart of the Nez Perce National Forest at an elevation of 5,150 feet. Adams Camp served as a way station along the Milner Trail as early as 1862. The Forest Service established the area adjacent to Adams Camp as an administrative site in 1919. Adams Ranger Station was built in 1932 for the District Ranger and his family. It last served as District headquarters in 1958. Since then, it has served as a work center, hosting a variety of summer crews. The historic cabin is available for rent year-round, except during spring melt, which typically occurs from mid-March to late May. Winter access is approximately 30 miles from Fish Creek Snow Park along a groomed snowmobile route. The cabin must be reserved in advanced; there are no walk-ups.

    Recreation

Many fun activities surround Adams Ranger Station, including numerous trails. Corral Creek, a nearby stock facility and trailhead, can accommodate horses and hikers. This trail system leads into the beautiful Gospel-Hump Wilderness. The Milner Trail, Road #641, is open to off-road vehicles in the summer and snowmobiles in the winter.

    Natural Features

Adams Ranger Station is near the Gospel-Hump Wilderness and part of the Salmon River/Highway 95 Corridor. The landscape in this corridor varies from the emerald Salmon River pouring through steep canyon walls to sapphire Moore's Lake in the remote Gospel-Hump Wilderness. The Gospel-Hump Wilderness has elevations ranging from 1,970 feet at the Wind River pack bridge on the Salmon River to 8,940 feet at the summit of Buffalo Hump. The northern part of the Wilderness is wetter and heavily forested; the southern part is dry and sparsely vegetated. The two parts are separated by a rugged, glaciated divide which contains the peaks for which the wilderness is named. Wildlife in the area includes mountain lions, moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goats and wolves.

    Nearby Attractions

Guests may wish to visit the historic gold-mining town of Florence. It is now a ghost town with a cemetery and a few long abandoned buildings.

The Fish Lake Campground is located adjacent to the picturesque Fish Lake in the Wallowa Mountains. As a high elevation campground visitors enjoy fishing, boating, and hiking at the nearby wildernes and non-wilderness trailheads. Six of the 21 tent/trailers sites have been constructed to accommodate persons with disabilities, and 6 sites on the upper loop are available for RV's longer than 20 feet. Considerations: Mosquitos! and dropping water levels in late summer.

        Fantastic in every aspect

We loved it! We hadn't made reservations so only got to stay one night but plan on going back. The campground is Huge and accommodates a lot of spaces but they are far enough apart to not feel at all crowded. Lots of activities, biking, lake, showers, laundry, full hookup.

        Mountain Views and Rich History

Beautiful log cabin in the mountains of Idaho, located in Nez Perce Clearwater National Forest, so astonishing views are plentiful. There is no cell service here, so prepare for the trip ahead, print out your maps to the station, otherwise getting lost on your way here is a very likely possibility. BYO drinking water, headlamps and sense of adventure. Pack out what you pack in..must respect the power of nature.

Near by attractions are Florence which is a well known location for gold mining in days past, nice place to hike and explore the area’s history.

        Park At The River

Beautiful spot but not really camping

Park at the River is in a beautiful location but it’s a full blown RV park, not a campground. The big rigs are really packed in. The dry camping spots by the river are great until the neighbors run a generator all day long. There are all kinds of amenities within walking distance: stores, restaurants, mini golf, etc.

Great sites especially in fall with aspen groves. Dusty road but all gravel- drove in with my little Nissan Sentra just fine. Water and pit toilets, access to fishing, canoe, swimming altho a little muddy at times. Wildflowers and access to blm land.

        Ponderosa RV Dump Station

        Beautiful location

The site (Aspen 7) was snug - our tent was 3 feet from the fire - but the campground is beautiful and the couple maintaining the sites are meticulous! They did regular rounds and practically had the sites cleaned and ready for the next visitor within minutes of checkout. The facilities are well kept and there is so much to do! I can see why the park is often completely booked.

A favorite of locals and visitors

We were fortunate to snag a cancelation spot for 3 days. We hiked, biked, SUP, enjoyed the 3 breweries in town. One of my favorites was picking wild huckleberry that happened to be in season while we were there. It's one of the best places to find them in the state. The sites were not too close. The showers in the new section were some of the best we have found. It is one of our new favorites. We can't wait to go back.

        Buck Park Cabin

        Warm place when snowmobiling.

As stated in description it's rustic. Not much to it but it did offer a sheltered place to build a fire/get warm and weather a bad storm. In the summer, the long rough road into it is not for everyone. Scenery is good and very quiet. If you want remote with the bare basics, this is the place.

        RV Park near Joesph

This review is only for the reservation portion and attitude of the on-site manager.  We made a reservation about 6 weeks before we were due to arrive.  We made them over the phone and we were told all was in good order by the gentlemen that answered the phone.  When the first part of our party showed up to check in we were told they had no idea about our reservation and they were full.   When asked what happened the guy said he must have answered the phone while out on the property and didn't write down the reservation.  Needless to say the panic set in.  This was during the busy summer season and things everywhere were booked up and had been for weeks.  When asked what he could do for us he said "Nothing"  He was reluctantly call around to try and find a spot which we were able to find.  He then told us "That place is a shit hole I wouldn't stay there"  We just replied "well we really don't have a choice since you didn't take down our reservation and people are already driving 5+ hrs to get here"

While the place does look nice I would make sure you get a reservation number or email confirmation after making a reservation.

        Park At The River

        Busy but nice!

This RV park is on the south side of Wallowa Lake nestled on the river that feeds the lake. They have 49 full hookup sites and they definitely pack them in there. We opted for a river site which is dry camping but much quieter and a bit more dispersed.

The area is a great little getaway with a myriad of activities to do. Besides the lake there is a (pretty expensive) tram that takes you up the mountain, go carts, miniature golf, discovery centers, museums, etc.

The park was clean and well maintained. Although it was great to have the river right out your front window we constantly had others encroaching on our site trying to get at the river. A simple sign to direct others to river access would have been appreciated.

Overall we really enjoyed the park and area.

        Clean, nice RV Park

We stayed here one night while on a road trip in Idaho. The park and facilities are extremely clean and have good amenities, like laundry and showers. Sunsets are great from this location! On the highway, but not much road noise. The WiFi and cell service was not the best. I would’ve rated it a five, but the office was closed the entire time and there were no instructions left for us with the code to the clubhouse and laundry, which we wanted to use. My calls to inquire with some questions weren’t returned.

        Beautiful, peaceful campground

This campground was a great weekend stay. The creek is right next to the sites and is great to sleep next to! The bathrooms were very clean and the sites were well-maintained and relatively private. There’s plenty of space/trees for hammocks and very few bugs. We arrived around 5pm on a Friday and about 1/3 of the sites were open. Highly recommend!

        Our favorite!

As noted before we love Ponderosa. The camp ground is clean with nice bathrooms as well as showers(showers not available currently due to Covid). Great for riding bikes, water sports, shaded camping and running into town for an ice cream cone if you like. Lots of wildlife around town.
