Biltmore RV Park

Savannah, GA is famous for its lush public parks, antebellum mansions, and horse-drawn carriages. The coastal Georgia city is named for and near the Savannah River and offers some of the best camping in the state. Visitors can walk into the campgrounds or drive an RV into one of the area’s numerous campsites. Conveniently placed ramps are perfect for campers that want to get some fishing in during their visit. Camping options include staying in cabins along hiking trails or pitching tents among the pines, palms, and moss-covered old oaks. Spend time in a yurt, before exploring the surrounding trails on horseback.

Full hookups and pull through with lots of trees. Not particularly quiet and no shower or laundry facilities. The women in the front have all the info you need to explore the local area and you can buy buses passes there to have a guided tour of Charleston. The passes are cheaper and they will pick you up which is better than driving to Charleston and looking for parking

The campground isn’t glamorous or have any amenities BUT it’s a clean place with very nice owners. They take you to your site. While registering you get a city map and they’ll arrange the trolly for pick up for you at campground. It’s a small place but sites are spacious for large rigs. It’s close to Savannah and anything you’d want or need. Hwy runs right in front office but we had no road noise to speak of- it seemed quiet with lots of nice shady trees. We’d definitely highly recommend and will stay again!!!

Where I come from THE Biltmore is arguably one of the grandest dame hotels in the entire country, so pristine and regal that from the moment you arrive until the sad instance you have to leave, you have been transformed by a world of opulence and luxury that is not easily found or replicated. So when I see any reference to the unique moniker of Biltmore, my head snaps. With this in mind, my first impression of Biltmore RV Park is that it has obviously borrowed a name referencing luxury in order to apply that equity to its own, very mediocre (at best) offering. While certainly a roadside RV stand to be sure, there is no opulence here to be experience at Biltmore RV Park, so don’t let the naming of this place fool you. 

  

That said, if you do find yourself in or near arguably the best little city in the entire South (that would be Savannah, GA y’all!) and are in need of a spot to park your over-sized mobile living room for the night (or for many) and cringe at the thought of trying to park your way into a narrow slot overwhelmed on every side by the unsightly scenes or ghastly noise from the very metropolis you are seeking to escape, then look no further than Biltmore RV Park, which to be clear, while we continue on with the naming rights point, does NOT have a park. The subject of ‘Park,’ I would argue, is so much less descriptive of the place and much more accurate in describing the shift position you will have to place your RV or hauling truck in order to come to a complete stop and place your mobile living room stationary… or, in ‘Park.’ :-)

  

As for this RV parking lot itself, you’ll find yourself located southwest of Savannah on Highway 17, wherein Biltmore RV Park is one part RV resting place and another half antique store mall. In all, there’s about 30 RV sites to choose from, of which I highly recommend either those that are furthest away from the nearby highway and against the treeline (sites: #11 - 14, 34, 38, 17 and 18) or those that are on the inside circle (sites: #7 - 10). So yes, you really can have it all – pull-through and back-in RV slots with full hook-ups (30/ 50 electric amp, water, sewage), satellite-friendly, complimentary WiFi, dog walking service and decent shade (which should be highly prized here in the Savannah area). This is a place that doesn’t come with much in the way and shape or form of amenities, but if you prize proximity (to Savannah) and price (quite economical), then look no further than Biltmore RV Park, which does provide a very nice landscaped spot to rest for the night without all the ‘bells&amp; whistles’ that normally you would be paying a decent premium for. And if that is what you are looking for, then drive 5 minutes from here and stay at Red Gate Campground, which will offer you many more amenities, but will ask you to pay a bit more for it, in exchange. 

  

Insider’s tips? Here’s a few: (1) If you’d like to explore the amazing coastline in and around Savannah, check out little Tybee Island, which is a gem destination of Georgia’s barrier islands and is only a 20 minute drive from Biltmore RV Park; (2) When you get tired of thinking about planning and preparing for that next meal, you’re in great luck because you have so many nearby options of either traditional comfort food chain restaurants (think Bojangle’s, McDonald’s, Zaxby’s), authentic Southern joints like Sweet Potatoes Kitchen, Barnes Restaurant, Betty Bombers or Southern-inspired Haute Cuisine legends like Cotton&amp; Rye, Grey &amp; Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room; (3) Come hauling kayak or canoe and want to get your watercraft a bit wet, well look no further than nearby Salt Creek Park, which will let you access a fairly shallow creek, but nonetheless enjoyable; and (4) One of our most favorite places to visit in all of Savannah is Forsyth Park, which is centrally located in the city and provides for a great green spot to spread out a picnic blanket, take in the sun and cloud-gaze underneath the canopy of ancient Oaks just dripping with Spanish Moss.

Don’t Let The Name Fool You – Not THE Biltmore, but THAT Biltmore 

This is a review of our experience here for a six month stay for work (Sep-Mar 2023/24). Whether anything is under the control of the owners or not, it provides information about our experience for others. Our evaluation is based on a comparison of campgrounds we have been to over the last thirty plus years. We know we agreed to the terms here, but didn't have much of a choice with other places being full and other reservations being cancelled on us prior to our arrival. 

  Making reservation and check in were both easy. We paid by check. We were brought to our site in a golf cart and shown all the hookups and it was explained how to get into the site easily. We had no problems with Barbara or Russ. They were very informative as to where all the necessary places were (groceries, car wash etc.) We were also given a couple of good recommendations for local restaurants. You can buy tickets and get the trolley from here.
  Most sites are nice, large, and shaded. Ours had a concrete pad and we fit our 36 foot 5th wheel and 2 vehicles easily, and still had all kinds of space. The front row is all on dirt and close together, the rest of the park is spacious sites.
  The park itself is nice and everyone is quiet. There are many long term and permanent rigs, but all are in pretty good shape. Convenient location for work at hospital.

Now for the drawbacks.
  It is pretty expensive for a park with no amenities. There is no wifi, laundry room, shower/restroom, picnic table, fire ring, store, or dog park. Nothing. Our next campground is four hundred a month cheaper and has showers, restrooms and laundry/game room. All of our previous campgrounds at this price had pools, playgrounds, basketball and or pickleball, stores, propane, dog parks, fire rings, picnic tables, and some even free entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings.
  This is by far the loudest campground we have ever been to for road noise. The front row is 20 yards from the highway, and the second row (which we were in) is about 30 yards away. Vehicles with loud exhausts and stereos and semis all day long. There are both a police station and a fire station right down the road, so they go blasting by with sirens on average 4-6 times a day. I even joked with my wife that there were no sirens until 20 minutes into the new year. There is no attempt to quiet it, like a privacy fence or anything. I understand it may not be as bad in the back spaces.
  No security measures. I know of four vehicles that were gone through while we were there (including mine). The fence doesn't surround the whole property, no controlled access, no cameras, and only one light at the entrance. I read a previous review that someone else had a problem with catching someone going through their stuff here.
  Monthly stays have to maintain your own site. Mowing, raking, etc. Since it was fall/winter I did a lot of cleaning up leaves and fallen branches. Somewhere between 30-40 bags of leaves.
  Large trees may be nice for shade in summer, but both of our vehicles (one brand new) ended up looking like they were in a hailstorm from the acorns falling out of the huge oaks they were parked under. The truck also had a couple of scrapes from the branches falling on it. Site 5. Not all sites have the parking directly beneath these behemoth trees.
  We went ten days over six months. For the last ten days our rate was changed to where it cost seventy dollars per night. Most places have just continued those last few days at the same rate we were paying for the monthly rate.
  After a while of being in Savannah we did find other campgrounds at about half the price which would have added between 10 to 30 minutes of drive time for work. We chose to not go through the hassle of packing everything up and moving. We would probably choose one of those campgrounds for two main reasons: Price and road noise.
