Dowling Park River Camp — Suwannee River Wilderness Trail

An Oasis for Paddlers!

We did a 65 mile paddle on the Suwanee River and stayed at two river camps and a campsite! We loved all the spots. These river camps are a TREAT! WOW!

Dowling Park and Peakock Slough were both really nice river camps. Here are some things we liked about Dowling Park

  • hosts had firewood for sale! $6/bundle. They were quite friendly :) not sure if every host has firewood though.
  • free! didn’t require reservations during our winter COVID trip time
  • screened in pavilions with light/fan and outlets. Each one has a fire pit, grill and water spigot! Quite cute :)
  • decent amount of privacy between sites - but we were the only ones there at the end of December!
  • bathrooms with hot showers. Dowling Park must flood at times bc the bathrooms were trailers and some of the pavilions were two stories up with stairs (except one handicap accessible one)
  • canoe racks
  • larger pavilion with picnic tables
  • wheelbarrows to wheel your stuff from the river to campsite. Amazing!
  • extra primitive sites
  • dishwashing area
