## Overview

 Stevens Creek Campground lies on the north shore at the eastern end of Blue Mesa Reservoir. This is the closest campground to the town of Gunnison, CO. Popular with boaters, Stevens Creek has easy access to the reservoir. It is very sunny and bright, and the scent of sagebrush adds to the camping experience.A bit downstream is the Morrow Point Reservoir and the Crystal Reservoir, both surrounded by the steep cliffs of the Black Canyon. 
## Recreation

 Stand up paddleboarding, fishing, canoeing and other water sports are popular here. [Bird Watching][1] is rewarding throughout the park but especially so in this shallower end of the reservoir which is ideal for waterfowl. Hikers, try the 1.5 mile (2.4) Neversink Trail, which meanders along the Gunnison River upstream of Blue Mesa Reservoir. Check the park's [Hiking web page][2] for more information. 
## Natural Features

 The campground sits at an elevation of 7,540 feet (2298 m) and is characterized by a semi-arid, treeless shrubland. The mesa landscape is covered with sagebrush and receives less than 12 inches (30 cm) of rain each year.

 Head into Gunnison for a meal, a bit of shopping, or a visit to the local park or museum. Gunnison is known for its western ambiance and small town friendliness. Mountain biking and hiking can be found at [Hartman Rocks Trail][3] just south of Gunnison.

The Best Camping Near Gunnison, Colorado

Camped here over the weekend and really liked it. Campground was only half full, which was nice. We had an RV site so plenty of room to set up tents and bags. Very close to the lake and was beautiful. Liked that they take reservations.

Great place to camp

I realized while driving to Telluride that I wasn’t going to make it to my next camp by dark and that I needed to find some place asap to set up for the night.

About five minutes later, I passed the BLM sign for this campsite. I almost thought it wasn’t real because the view was too amazing and the grounds were almost completely empty!! I was able to get what I thought was the prime spot (site #1) and get my tent up with enough time to enjoy the beautiful sunset. The campsite did fill up a bit more as the night went on, but was at nowhere near capacity. 

There are two bathrooms. The one I used was clean. There are bear proof trash cans towards the entrance to dispose of your trash. There is also a boat ramp, but that was closed the night I stayed here. 

A ranger came through first thing in the morning to check slips, so make sure you pay when you get in and have your slip filled out and posted. 

Breathtaking views

This campground has no shade and gets really hot in the summer. We got to the campground around 2pm and swam in the lake. It was refreshing, but we left to make our dinner and relax somewhere else because the heat was a bit unbearable. When we came back around sunset, the views were amazing and it had cooled down significantly. Nice place to camp but bring something to shade yourself with if you’re planning on being there for a while. 

Beautiful views

We spent one night here on our way further West. Cheap site with nice views of the Reservoir. Basic site and no running water in campground. Vault toilets were as clean as can be expected. 

Good stopping point

The reservoir is quite low (summer 2022) so don't expect to be close to the water. No trees; just typical low scrub. Reasonably spaced sites. Water spigot spaced throughout. One bar cell coverage. 

Nice stop for the night

My partner and I pulled up, got disappointed. The site looks like an RV neighborhood, and is not a tent campground. The sites are all close really close together (offering no privacy) and not to mention there are no trees anywhere. 
We tried to pitch a tent but couldn’t let go of any side of it for even a second. There are no trees so it’s constantly windy and the exposure is ultra high. 
We didn’t even finish packing up, we just left and found another site that was more catered to the type of camping we were looking for. Thankfully we found a site near by, with fishing, running water, firewood and everything else you could want, that catered more to rent camping.


This is an RV campsite. Not for tents.
