Beautiful Campground on the St. Vrain River
We’ve stayed at Camp Dick several times now, and had a great experience each time. Our first trips we stayed at site 8 which is on a braided portion of the river, making for easy access to rinse water for dishes etc. But this site has no protection whatsoever so when the wind or rain comes, you get it all. This is pretty much the same story for all the sites along the river, so we went looking for another possibility on our future visits. We had scouted out the sites and hoped to get 35, as it is at the end of the road and somewhat off by itself but it was already reserved for the dates we wanted, so we settled for site 32. It was perfect. Most of the sites along the south are in the trees providing more privacy and a bit of protection…The trail up to Beaver reservoir is nice, but the reservoir itself is lacking. The trail along the river is beautiful and well worth the effort. Lots of wild flowers and scenery to keep you engaged. And of course there’s the river which you can soak your feet in or submerse yourself entirely as well as cast in a line and try your hand at fishing…I hope to do some of that myself this coming season. So if you’re a hiker, a fisher or just a relaxer, Camp Dick has you covered. The one negative for us was the off road vehicles that pass through coming from Happy Valley I think…I haven’t seen any staying at Camp Dick. Not terrible, just contrary to why we go out there…Happy Camping!
