Gold Park Campground, near White River National Forest, is a fantastic spot for those looking to immerse themselves in nature. With its prime location alongside a river, it offers a serene setting for camping, whether you’re pitching a tent, parking an RV, or trying out glamping.

The campground features clean vault toilets and well-maintained grounds, which visitors appreciate. Many campers have noted the close-knit feel of the sites, with some expressing envy over the more secluded spots, especially site #7, which boasts a perfect blend of river access and tree cover. For this reason a food storage order\_\_is in effect at\_\_all developed campgrounds\_\_on the Eagle/Holy Cross Ranger District, and the Piney Guard Station, Tigiwon Lodge, Mount of the Holy Cross Overlook, Homestake Road FSR 703, and Nolan Creek Road.\_\_This order requires\_\_all food and refuse to be stored in hard-sided vehicles, approved bear-resistant containers, or supended at least 10 feet clear of the ground at all points and four feet horizontally from any supporting tree or pole. This order has been issued to provide for public safety and wildlife conservation. Hopefully it will reduce wildlife habituation problems.\_\_The Gold Park campground is located along Homestake Creek in the Homestake Valley in a forested setting. There are 12 camp sites available.[Holy Cross Wilderness][1] is nearby; all [wilderness regulations][2] must be observed when traveling in the wilderness (foot and horse travel only). The Best Camping Near Red Cliff, Colorado

We stayed at this campsite two nights and I enjoyed it more the longer I was there.  The drive in was long but beautiful. It does not take reservations, but there were some free sites on the road in if you needed a back up option.  

The host is super nice and is proud of the campground he has been taking care of for 5 years.  The sites are spacious and although there are trees between, there is not a lot of privacy.  It is a small campground with 12 sites, so that didn't bother us.  There is a creek on one side and a small hill on the other for the kids to hike around.  Bathrooms are clean, but did smell a little since it's so far out they probably don't get emptied as often.  And there is no cell service, do you can truly get away!.  Just up the road is a reservoir to check out.

We received a therm-a-rest slacker hammock in an obsidian box which is perfect to take to this site with all the trees - or any site! It packs flat and is light enough to take backpacking, about a pound and a half for our double sized hammock. The Obsidian boxes are quaterly and the next one comes out in September - we can't wait! It is like Christmas for us!

Stayed at a pony site for extra privacy ;) Beautiful views, stars and wildlife. 

Stargazing

Perfect place to find privacy. This place was a ways down a dirt road but like the other review said there were plenty of spots for dispersed camping along the road for a back up plan but for my 8 year old a toilet and a campfire was a must. The camp host is super nice and keeps a great campsite. The pit toilet was clean and did not smell. My 8 year old actually said it was the best one she saw all week and for a newbie camper on her first trip that says a lot! We loved this site because we were able to hike along the creek and sit on the boulders and watch the fly fisherman and then hike up the hill on the other side of this campsite. Lots to explore to keep the kids busy.

Awesome campground

Gold Park is a great place to stay if you want trails and high alpine lakes at your fingertips. We stayed here so we could hike Fancy Lake and the Missouri Lakes, both of which are less than 5 miles away. Gorgeous high alpine lakes. The campsite has pit toilets and a great host. We really enjoyed our 3 day stay! Be sure to take advantage of the stunning hikes nearby. An easy drive from Vail or Leadville. 

Tons of exploring nearby 

This is a decent campground. It is next a big creek and has some good 4x4 trails near it. I thought some of the sites were a little close to each other. There are trees between the sites, but you can see right through them. The sites on the creek side were better, but unfortunately they were all taken when I arrived. It has all the basic amenities - picnic table, fire ring, bathrooms. There are dispersed sites along Homestake Rd (703) as well, which is the road you take to the campground. Past the campground there’s the Missouri Lakes Trailhead for hiking. There’s also a whole network of 4x4 trails which have excellent views and a ghost town called Holy Cross City. It’s really just one building, but still interesting. I recommend bringing a map if you go off roading on the trails because we totally got lost. 


Pretty good 

Outstanding camping experience. Small campground on the river with plenty of trees for relaxing in nature. The grounds were clean and organized and the camp host, Doug, was exceptional. Highly recommended.

  

Stay here and you'll be ~1 mile from the start of the Missouri Lakes hike. One of CO's best.

Excellent campgrounds on the river

This is a really nice campground, right on the river. Sites are a little bit close together, but beautiful. 

Really Beautiful

Sites were a bit close together but it was still in a beautiful area right on the river. We were very jealous of site #7 it was by far the best of them. On the river, and backed up to trees and a rock face and the most secluded. The rest were sort of out in the open. Definitely far from help so bring some bear spray because we would see some recent bear activity and no cell service. Each site has a food locker which was very convenient along with a fire ring and a picnic table. The grounds had vault toilets but it was very very clean. Lots to do around white river national forest and I would stay here again! 

Go for Gold

You'll pass several free dispersed campsites along this long mountain road as you make your way to this pay-campground. A river runs alongside the campground. There wasn't a camphost during my 2-night stay, but a ranger did his round each day around noon. Vault toilets were well-maintained. No cell service.
